unable to restore .bkf file content. Please Help

I had an older laptop a few months ago, put everything important onto my flash drive.  I had a bunch of files, in one folder and named it backup, hoping when I got my new computer I could just transfer it over. 

Anyways, I tried opening the file I named "backup" and now its all of a sudden a .bkf file.  I'm not sure how this happened. 

I was suggested to download the NTbackup utilities program, and it seemed to restore the actual files and folders, but not the content in them.  For instance, now I have a folder named pictures, with no pictures in it. on the ntbackup I can see all the details, the names of all the files I once had, but for some reason, when I click restore, it goes on for a few seconds then in the report it says some files were skipped.  So basically I have all the folders I once had, but none of the content in the folders is there.  How can I get my stuff back??

how do i get the windows classic (extra large) color schemes for server 2003

Hello,  i have an installation of Windows Server 2003 Ent Terminalserver. Here i'm able to select a colorscheme like windows classic (extra large). On another W2K3 Terminalserver , i'm not able to select it. Only the normal color schemes are possible. How do i get these additional color schemes.

Dear Sir,

Myself ganesh.

we are using IBM Server x3200 M3 Sever with 500 GB HDD + 16GB RAM & It is our Terminal server means every user will access remotely from their end ( Environment : Local LAN )

server is utilize more CPU Usage (98% - 99%) so how to reduce the usage amount , Please help !!

Managing Windows Update for Windows Server in cloud environment

Hi,

We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 in for our hosting server in a Cloud environment. We would like to know how to manage patches and windows update when there is no access to the microsoft windows update server. Is there any way to do a manual patches offline?

The key challenges here is what patches that we need to update on the server itself. How can we determine this?

Is it possible to have some management tools to provide these functionality?

Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. )

Any idea what's the issue? I read somewhere its related to handle....

Access Denied accessing Department Mapped Drive where Offline Files is enabled on a wireless computer

Symptom: Some users experience "Access Denied" when accessing a mapped drive to a department share on laptop computers where multiple users use the same computer throughout the day.

Server : Windows 2003 SP2

Client : Windows 7 Enterprise SP1

Subject: Offline Files / Server Share Cache

Changing the Server, Share, Cache, Offline Settings to "Files or programs from the share will not be available offline" does not prevent or remove the issue.

To reproduce, set the "Offline Settings" on the server share cache settings to  "Files or programs from the share will not be available offline".

Using a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise SP1; with "Offline Files" enabled.  Log in as a users with ReadOnly access to \\servername\share and map that drive to a drive letter.  Once connected, and accessible to the mapped drive, right click the mapped drive, and "Make Available Offline".  Then disable the wireless adapter; breaking your network connection, and forcing the computer "offline".

Re-enable the wireless.  Access the mapped drive again.  Log off.

Log in as another user (again a user with ReadOnly access to the share).  Map the drive. Access the Mapped Drive (We recieve "Access Denied").  Log off.

Log back in as first user, access the mapped drive (should work).

We have a logon script that maps the drives automatically.  We also have a WPA-Enterprise/NPS wireless authentication topology that disconnects the wireless and renegotiates between logons (used for RADIUS accounting of users).

Our intension is not to use "Offline Files" for this mapped drive/cache.  We'd like to prevent this issue without disabling "Offline Files" on every computer.

Windows server 2008 r2 sp1 activation problem

Hello all,

We have purchased windows server 2008 r2. Later on we needed win server 2008 r2 SP1. So we downloaded from microsoft site with SP1 and try to activate with the serial key provided by microsoft for Window server 2008 r2, but windows not activating.

My question is that can we use windows server 2008 r2 activation key to windows server 2008 r2 SP1 ???

if yes then why error is coming ???

Windows 2008 R2 standard Server - OVO Monitoring Issue

Hi,

I am using Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server. Facing few Issue in Communicating with the OVO Monitoring Server. From this Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server it is not communicating with the OVO Server(Not pinging). While checking with teh Network Team we got the update that in the Firewall end it is using the one of the Additional IP to communicate with the OVO Server.

We have upgraded the Server to SP1 eventhough it does not fix the Issue.

Is anybody aware of this Issue in Windows 2008 R2 Standard server. if so , please share your Inputs

How to verify basic IMAP connectivity

Hi All

I need you help about IMAP connectivity, My scenario is

   i have an CRM which is connect with Gmail through IMAP Library ,

1)  My All Email receive both side (Gmail & CRM)

2)  i Check all Email Download CRM

but now i  observed that some email not download in CRM which receive through XYZ@gmail.com ( IMAP)and  not found any error on CRM Server  after checking  server ,

after start and stop POP Service in Gmail  i receive mail on my CRM Server

Kindly Suggest me how can track IMAP  Record

Hyper-V Cluster iSCSI target

Hello all - I am banging my head against the wall with this iSCSI connectivity issue with a production Hyper-V cluster.  I have 3 production nodes already connected to an HP P2000 SAN using MPIO on the iSCSI NICs.  I am adding a fourth node for additional capability and because one of my current production nodes had a hardware failure and want to ensure we have adequate resources.  Here is the issue, I have configured the additional node identically to the other 3 nodes and the CSV LUN and Quorum LUN show as RAW file system when I bring them online.  I have gone through the iSCSI initiator a number of times to ensure that all the settings are identical to my other 3 production nodes.  Any thoughts or recommendations to why it would show a RAW file system instead of NTFS?  Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Small site/app for about 50 employee's to enter asset/tag info and create workorders.

No fancy NTLM/Role Membership authentication just old school does your user id / pass exist in a table.

I see that they have done away with the Web Edition of 2012 server.  How much am I going to have to spend to launch this site?

Cannot install sp1 on Windows 2008 R2 64bit error 0x800f0818

Hi!

I have tried to install sp1 on 10 Windows 2008 R2 servers 64bit. On 8 of them the installation was easy and successful! The two last servers got errors, I managed to install the sp on one of these servers after running the System Update Readiness Tool. However it did not help on the last server: got the error 0x800f0818. Does anyone have any tips/ suggestion to solve this?

BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008 R2

I have tried putting the dvd in and then running the recovery console via the command prompt.  I only have the options for "system Image Recovery", "Windows Memory Diagnostic" and Command Prompt.

I ran Bootrec /RebuildBcd, Bootrec /FixMbr and Bootrec /FixBoot

None of it works and I still get the error.  How do I fix this (I have no windows restore point)?

and How do I get it to automatically create restore points?

It is a Virtual machine and the only snapshot is with windows is open, but when restarted it still has the issue.  Is there a way to solve the issue from inside windows itself?

Windows Server Enterprise - cannot copy/paste/cut/compress files and folders within Windows

I've been working on an issue within Windows Server Enterprise that I am thoroughly stumped on. The issue was initially brought to us because a user was unable to compress files on the server (he was right clicking on the folder and choosing Send to->"Compressed (zipped) Folder"). Investigating that issue, I found that I wasn't able to cut/copy/paste any files and folders on the server. I am part of the domain admin group, so rights shouldn't be an issue...plus I created my own test documents and folders within my profile on server and verified that I had full admin control and was set as the owner. Whenever I attempt to copy/cut a file and then paste it elsewhere, the system gives me two beeps...but no error message reported. With compressing a file/folder, once I click on the option for "Compressed (zipped) Folder", nothing else happens and no error is reported.

From one of the other servers, I was able to access the C: share of the problem server and from there be able to cut/copy/paste/compress files...so it is something specific to that one server. Both servers are in the same OU within AD and have the same GPO applied to them. I've tested this from a local admin account and it had the same issues.  I've also ran an "sfc /verifyonly" command, but it reports that all system files are fine. This is the only server that it is being reported on, I can't find any GPO that could affect this, and I've checked that the clipboard is working fine by going into Notepad on the server and verifying that I can copy/cut/paste text within it.  Also, if I open up a command prompt, I am able to copy and move files/folders within there...so it is just within the GUI of Windows that it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Event ID 4377 equivalent in 2008R2

Hi All,

Would be grateful if someone could share the equivalent of event id 4377 in 2008r2 , i jus want to know who has installed the patches or hotfix in 2008r2.in 2003 and 2000 you have an option to filter by ntservice pack or 4377 events . its not there from 2008 , someone please help me on this.

Windows Server 2008 in Linux KVM Hanging

I've been working on getting a Windows Server 2008 (Standard) KVM in my linux box running Ubuntu Server 12.04. I've got virt-install and virt-manager installed, got the install up and running via

virt-install --connect qemu:///system -n winsvr2008 -r 1024 --vcpus=1 --disk path=/home/pwnd/vm/2008.img,size=30 -c /home/pwnd/en_windows_server_2008_with_sp2_x86_dvd_342333.iso --graphics vnc,listen=192.168.1.127 --noautoconsole --os-type=windows --os-variant=win2k8 --network=bridge:virbr0 --hvm -v

and

virsh vncdisplay winsvr2008

I can connect and view as well as I can get to the install screen, but once I click Install, it just hangs indefinitely on Please Wait...

Ideas?

Computer unable to join into Domian Controller

Hi All,


I have using Windows Server 2008 Standard R1 as my domain controller with a new and stand alone domain forest.
However, computers unable to join into the domain if I allow the computer to "Obtain an IP address automatically".
I can only join the domain only if I fixed the computer IP address. The IP address that I key in, is actually same as the IP that the computer obtain based on "DHCP enable".

After I join the computer into the domain, I try to change the IP setting to "Obtain an IP address automatically", I will unable to connect into the domain again.
I have another device as DHCP to assign IP address to the computers based on computer's MAC address, so the computers will always obtain the same IP address.
I have proceed same testing on Windows Server 2003, but the same issue did not happened.

Can anyone help me on this?
Why the computer can connect to the domain only if I fixed the IP address, although my DHCP is able function and assign IP address to the computers?
Is it because of the Firewall setting or the policy setting that cause this issue?
Is there any policy in the Group Policy that will check on the computer IP address before connect into domain?
The computer OS that using is Windows 7 and Windows XP.
