ActiveX control for streaming video crashes on Windows Server 64-bit platform

$

Using IE7 or IE8 we're connecting to a remote digital video recorder that has surveillance cameras attached usinghttp://<DVR ip address>.

It loads an ActiveX control that displays the camera images.

This works fine in Windows XP 32 and 64 bit, in Windows 7 64-bit. It does not work on server platforms 64-bit Windows 2003 and 2008.

Is there a restriction on server platforms that prevent ActiveX controls to display streaming video?

It concerns 600series.ocx from Bosch.

Trust Relationship w Windows 7 Ent. Clients

I have a Trust Relationship error message that comes up often in our environment. To fix this we remove the computer name from the A.D. Domain. Then we force the computer to leave the domain. We add the machine to a local Workgroup. Then we re-add the machine back to the A.D. Domain. Is there a simpler way to fix this issue? Our environment is Client/Server Windows Server 2008 R2 domain with Windows 7 Enterprise clients.

Thanks,

Brian

can see but not access workstation from server?

Hi

I am having a bit of an issue with a 2003 server and a windows 7 workstation. I am trying to set up logon scripts to back up certain folders on the workstation to the server. But they are not talking properly. I can see the workstation in the network list, along with all the other workstations, however (unlike the other workstations) when I attempt to access it from the server I get the following error...

\\stationname is not accessible. You might not have permission...yadda yadda.

The workstation is able to see and access the server, and the server sees but is unable to access the workstation... I have checked the network discovery, file and print sharing, and so on and all looks well. I just don't know what else to try.

and does it even matter (for the xcopy script) that the server cant access the ws shares as long as the ws can access the servers? Or should I be double checking my scripting?

Hello, I would like to use a custom filter in the printer eventlog, its easy to filter one event like this:

But now I would like to refine this filter by printer name "Xerox Phaser 3635MFP PS 3e etage" (below an event containing this printer name)

Server shutdown randomly - winlogon.exe + other clues

$

Hello,

This has started happening since last week. Every day (sometimes more than once), the server (Windows Server 2003) would shut-down or restart by itself.

I've investigated in the event viewer, and noticed 2 things:

1. Every single time this happens, in the system log, it has "the process winlogon.exe has initiated the power off of a computer", and this is always from USER32.

2. In the security log, at almost the exact same time as the above "winlogon.exe", I would see an entry with "attempted logon by MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_v1_0". Within seconds of this logon, the server then shuts down by itself.

I've ran 2 virus scans, and monitored in process explorer for any suspicious processes, but found nothing. It looks like the shutdown is directly related to this logon attempt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is extremely troublesome.

Thank you.

I have a SQL server 2008 installed on a windows 2008.

We have some archived databases backup files saved on the disk.

I would like to compress it to save some space. But when I right click the database, and select send to compressed folder, I got a warning :

Windows cannot create the compressed folders here. do you want to be placed on the desktop instead?

No, I don't want it to put it to desktop.

Why I got the message, how can I fix it?

THanks

Hi all,

I want to delegate " Join a computer to the domain" to a new administrator. I tried to use delegwiz.inf file from the websitehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772784(WS.10).aspx

For Join a computer to the domain, usetemplate 6.

Change template 6setting with this setting:

[template6]
AppliesToClasses=domainDNS,organizationalUnit,container

Description="Join a computer to the domain"

ObjectTypes= SCOPE, computer

[template6.SCOPE]
computer
=CC

[template6.computer]

But when I use Delegation of control wizard, I could not find item " Join a computer to the domain", which I can select.

Any body know why it happened and how to fix it. I use Windows 2003 server for active directory.

Is there any best way for give the new administrator a right for join a computer to the domain?

Thanks in advance.

Issue with Netlogon and Server Services starting very slowly (15 minutes) in Windows 2008 Server R2...

Everyone,

I have been dealing with a windows 2008 R2 Sp1 issue on one of my servers we house at a client location. After rebooting the server, the server and netlogon services take about 15 minutes before they actually start, which is causing issues for other services.

my Broadcom nics are teamed, which I read could be an issue, so I disabled the media sensing on the cards but that didn't help at all.

This is the error I get when rebooting:

Windows Time Service - Server 2008 R2

$

I have a single-server Server 2008 R2 domain on which I need to configure NTP time synchronization.  I haven't ever needed to do this before, but a third-party database is shared between workstation computers and mobile devices and accurate time is critical.  I have munged about and found several helpful articles on using Group Policy to get everything setup.  It seemed reasonably straight-forward, but I'm not sure of my configuration and can't seem to confirm that the server/domain controller is properly getting its time from the NTP server.  I have confirmed that the network client computers are getting time from the server, but need to confirm that the server itself is correctly using the external NTP server.

I used Group Policy per the related docs I found.  I configured 4 settings in Computer Configuration\Policies\Adminstrative Templates\System\Windows Time Service.

1.  I enabled Global Configuration accepting all default settings

2.  Under "Time Providers" I enabled NTP Server

3.  Under "Time Providers" I enabled Windows NTP client

4.  Under "Time Providers" I enabled "Configured Windows NTP Client" accepting all of the defaults, including using the time.windows.com,0x9 setting

I ran gpupdate to confirm that the settings had been merged into the Default Domain Policy, restarted the Windows Time Service and played around a bit with the w32tm executable.

Here's what I got ...

It seems strange to me that the time source is the local CMOS clock and not the NTP server, but perhaps it's the clock that gets updated by the NTP server and this is to be expected?

I also munged about the various w32tm command line options but nothing is jumping out at me to use for confirming my configuration.  Any ideas on how to check/confirm my configuation?  Did I do something wrong or skip something?

I did check the firewall settings and did not see any inbound outbound exceptions for the UDP Port 123.  Do these need to manually configured?

Am I anywhere near close?  What command-line options for w32tm.exe might I use to test/confirm settings?

Server 2008 R2 SP1 - Shortcuts and Administrative Tools missing

Hi everybody,

I have a VM (ESX) running Windows Server 2008 r2 SP1 with WSUS 3.0, MDT 2010 Update1, WDS, and some other applications (F-Secure 9 for Windows Servers), which is experiencing some strange issues. After some updates and restarts I found it this morning with all of its shortcuts missing, as well as Administrative Tools. I scrolled through the system log but can't really see anything related to the issue.

I managed to resolve the Deployment Workbench by repairing the MDT installation in the Programs and Features menu, but can't really say that's an acceptable solution.

Does anyone have any ideas to might be the cause of this issue?

Windows Server Backup - error adding new disk to backup set

$

When I try to add a new disk to my existing scheduled backup I get the message "The specified file path does not exist or is not on a locally attached disk" and the command fails.

Here's the background:

  • I am using Windows Server Backup on Windows Server R2 to backup to a 2TB drive connected via an external SATA docking station.
  • I created the backup schedule using the GUI to backup to the first drive in the set.
  • I added a second drive a few weeks later using the command: WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget:{xxxxxxxx-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} and that worked fine.
  • I added a 3rd drive about 6 months later using the same method. I did this because the first drive failed.
  • I want to add a 4th drive now, but using the same method fails.
  • All 4 drives are the same make and model (WD20EARS).
  • After the command failed I tried doing a one-off backup to the drive to make sure it's not a drive problem and that worked fine. I then tried to use the WBADMIN command again to add the drive and it reformatted the drive but then failed with the same error.

Output from the command:

C:\Windows\system32>WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget:{fa90caf0-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}

Not able to install to VHD - "the selected disk is a surfaced virtual disk"

Hi all,

I am trying to dual boot server 2008 r2 with win 7 enterprice. I have created, formatted and attached a primary expandable VHD as the x: partition. But when i choose that drive during the setup installation of server 08 i get prompted with the error:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The  selected disk is a surfaced virtual disk. The computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the BIOS. "

But no reason for enabling anything in the bios as i am booting from the system drive, just with a vhd. I also looked it up and read that cause it says 'may not support' I should be able to continue with the installation. But I am not able to click next. Any help much appreciated.

Convert Dell OS FAT32 Partition to NTFS System Reserve

I received a PowerEdge T310 Dell with a RAID 1 setup. Dell already prepared the HD and no OS. I installed SBS 2011 on it just to find out I cant't do a BMR. I'm finding out it's because of Dell's FAT32 partition. I cannot reinstall the OS because it's now in production. Is there a clean way to delete the Dell 39MB OEM partition, the 2GB OS partition and just leave the C: partition that the SBS 2011 is installed on. I know it won't boot so what is the answer to solve my problem?

Thanks!
