Demotion of DC failed
I have a working DC, but my problem is that my old DC, (which crashed a while back) I am trying to do a DCPromo on the old server and I get an error message:
"The operation failed because:
Managing the network session with servername.domainname.com failed
The network path was not found. If this computer is connected to the network via a RAS connection, ensure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is enabled for that connection."
These two DCs are on the same LAN and no RAS connection.
My last option is to do a force demotion on that old server then use the Ntdsutil.exe too on a working DC to do a metadata cleanup, would that work too?
Has anyone every ran across this problem? Thank you for your help!

Windows Server 2003 and Bit Locker
I have an external USB3 hard drive that I use for off-premises backup. It is encrypted with Bitlocker. The data on this drive is sensitive and must be secured. When I plug the drive into a USB port on my server, I am not given an opportunity to mount the volume - I am asked only if I wish to format the drive. If plugged into a Windows 2007 computer, it operates properly.
Is there any means of using this drive with Windows 2003 Server?
am getting the error when am hosting webserver in 2008r2 i.e http error space 500.19 internal server error

Server 2008 wont boot. Storage driver issues
I am posting this question to the forum in an attempt to help another party with a major issue.
If it matters, this is an HP Proliant ML350 G5 server. It is running 32 bit server 2008. Apparently, there was the hp IPMI and baseboard drivers in device manager that were having issues. This server has some sort of raid setup but I have not seen the system yet to know how it is configured. Anyway, he decided to disable the devices in device manager and thought that when he restarted, windows would re-find the devices and re-install the drivers. Now however, the server will not boot even in safe mode. It starts to boot, gets the windows screen scrolling along and hangs. I am asking for any suggestions short of total re-installation.
I appreciate it. Thank you.

wdsclientunattended remove where add DiskID=0?
I saw several examples of response files wdsclientunattended.xml.
Some remove the disk id 0, pass 1 WindowsPE and other not!
Microsoft-Windows-Setup \ DiskConfiguration \ Disk
Action = RemoveListItem
DiskID = 0
WillWipeDisk = true
where
Action = AddListItem
DiskID = 0
WillWipeDisk = true
Can you tell me why?
If disk 0, there is being used AddListItem
It is simply formatted "WillWipeDisk = true
"Is not it?
Thank you for your help

No connection with internal network after VPN was setup.
If got 4 servers. 2 servers on location BOZ en 2 servers on location RSD. These locations both have connection to another network.
Each location has 1 server called VPN-"location" and 1 server DC-"location".
When there is no VPN established between VPN-RSD and VPN-BOZ, VPN-BOZ and DC-BOZ can ping each other on hostname and IP-adres. On the moment I establish a VPN connection, VPN-BOZ loses all connectivity to the local network and with DC-BOZ. Though I'm able to connect to remote resources on the RSD-network.
VPN-BOZ and VPN-RSD both have 2 NIC's. One NIC is connected to the local network and the other one is connected to the external network.
Thanks in advance.

Windows 2008 R2 Server failed logon attempts
Hello,
I'm a noob on WIndows Server 2008.
I've setup a Web Server in the last couple of weeks and things seem ok.
However I decided to check the event viewer today and I've noticed 1000's of logon attempts.
So what is the best practice to ban these people.
I would like to rename the Admin and Guest user id's via local policy.
Is there anything else I should be doing ?
I've seen a post which mentions moving the port for remote connection via windows firewall. Where can I get a list of free ports ?
Would be nice for Microsoft to auto ban IP's which after they try say 10 attempts ?
I am dumbfounded that I can see all these messages and my server just sits there and allows it to happen over and over and over ( repeat 10K times ).

Windows Server 2008 Update
Hello,
I hope someone can help about updates of Windows 2008 R2 server. No AD.
1. Use only for ERP via VPN for remote users and local workgroup.
2. The setup of Windows updating is only "notify when its download and manually install it."
The problem comes when select those updates which is "required" to be update, nothing happens and it just 0% all day night..
I check some users that connected through vpn it was 2-3 users only. I check all... I have internet and everything is fine.
but till morning nothing happens to 0%. We did restart the server hope it goes fine. Then we open the windows update, in CP
but its not opening. What's is wrong now? I tried to restart again, windows update is not opening? Is there something wrong?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Server 2008 keeps rebooting during boot
Hi,
I'm having problemes with a IBM Blade server booting from SAN, the server is running windows Server 2008 64 Bit Enterprise version. The server reboots during boot. If I try booting in safe mode, after the driver CRCDISK.SYS is loaded the server reboot.
this is what i have done so fare.
- running chkdsk c:\ /r - a few errors, but still same result.
- running SFC /Scannow /OffBootDir=C:\ /OffWinDir=C:\Windows - No errors and still same result
- running X:\sources\recovery\startrep kørt (from boot disk) – still same result.
- Showing only the boot disk from SAN to Server, removing other disks.
- Renamed the files software, security, default, system and sam from c:\windows\system32\config to .old. Copied the files software, security, default, system and sam from c:\windows\system32\config\regback to c:\windows\system32\config - still same result
- Last good known configuration - still same result.
Now i'm running out of ideas - so please help.
