Measure total wait time for an executable

I am looking for a way to evaluate the degree to which performance is an issue for a certain application used by numerous users working on Windows Server 2003.

I know Windows 10 allows to display a process's CPU wait time, but my basic need is a measure of a process's total wait time - not just CPU wait time. I expect most of the processing time to be spent waiting after a reply from another server.

An ideal solution could be used before the application is started, not just on a specific process. We would want a total for all instances of executable foo.exe, not just one instance.

I am interested in any solutions to the above problem, but a solution would be a lot more useful if it applied to Windows Server 2003.

Configuration of a Web Server, WS 2012r2

I need to create a default web page with a title of "Welcome to THE FIRM" that is accessible through a browser and the use of the site url. I also need to implement an IPSec Blocking strategy to block FTP services and WWW services. any and all help is appreciated.

NOTE** i am not using AD DS. so i cannot access group policy.

Upgrade from Server 2008 R2 Standard to Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - with SQL instances on server

We want to Upgrade a server using DISM. The server is running five instances of SQL Server 2008 R2. Is there anything we should be aware of when we do the upgrade? Should the SQL services be disabled during the Upgrade?

AD Based Activation - Office 2016 on Win7

Can I use Active Directory Based Activation to activate Office 2016 on a Windows 7 device?

I understand ADBA cannot be used to activate Win7 but I'm not clear if that applies only to the OS or if it includes other products installed on Win7.

I have ADBA activating Win8 devices, and Office 2013/2016 on Win8 devices but I'm getting OOB Grace for Office 2016 on Win7 devices. Normally I'd chalk it up to be being unsupported but these Win7 devices are from another client and configured differently. So, different SOE in the same environment.

2008 R2 server asking for activation again

One of my domain controllers is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition. It's been running for a couple of years just fine and suddenly it is now saying I need to activate. The time and date are correct and it does see the other domain controller. I'm not aware of any changes to this machine for quite a while. I thought I read somewhere about a service causing this issue, but I can't seem to find that article now. There's nothing in the event viewer that indicates there's any problems. Anyone know why it's suddenly asking for activation again? This is a volume license product. TIA.

Server 2008R2 VM safe boot only after full disk.

Greetings,

We have a 2008R2 VM running on a 2008R2 Enterprise server.  The VM ran out of space and went unresponsive.  We turned it off and back on again.  When it boots, it gives a BSOD.  The only way we can get it to boot is in safe mode.  I've found a variety of 10005 messages in the event logs, and also an entry showing 13 drivers were not loaded.  I'm having a hard time figuring out what was the cause and what are symptoms of the problem.  Here are things I've done with no luck:

1. Extended the file system and rebooted.

2. Ran a clean boot with all services disabled.

3. Ran sfc /scannow

4. Ran chkdsk /F

5. Ran the repair option from a 2008R2 disk

6. Ran the memory check from the recovery options window

I haven't had any luck getting the dumpchk.exe from a debugger to run.  I have files from the server available to view.

Any help with an accurate starting point would be appreciated.

WDS: Unable to import a Windows 10 v1607 WIM Image

We're running WDS v6.3.9600.16384 and have successfully imported Windows 10 install images previously.

Today, we've prepared several images using the new 1607 build for Windows 10 Enterprise (CBB). Each time we attempt to import the resulting images, we get the following error.  Is there something in the new anniversary build for Windows 10 which makes them incompatible with the current version of WDS?  Thanks for any advice!

Are windows updates dependant on each other

Hello,

I need to install security updates on my 2008 R2 server but there are some updates that I read online that have certain issues associated with them that I would like to avoid, so I have two questions:

1- Is microsoft aware of the bugs that certain updates (such as KB3159398,KB3161561,KB3161949) create, and if so are the update installations fixed after a while or do they stay the same?

2- If I choose to skip certain updates from a certain batch, can it affect the installation of other, later updates?

certificate enrollment issues 0x800725f2 (WIN32: xx DNS_ERROR_NAME_DOES_NOT_EXIST)

I have one server that cannot enrol a certificate, its a 2012R2 direct access server , and I'm stumped over this issue. Another test server can enrol the same certificate that the DA server will not!

First,

Certificate enrollment for Local system failed to enroll for a DirectAccessServer certificate with request ID 1790 from MEACA1.domain.local\MY CA (DNS name does not exist. 0x800725f2 (WIN32: 9714 DNS_ERROR_NAME_DOES_NOT_EXIST)).

then,

Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed (0x800725f2) DNS name does not exist.

I have enabled verbose cert logging but its not really any more helpful than the event log, stating the same error.

any troubleshooting directions would be most appreciated.

The Sysvol and Netlogon shares are missing after You restore a primary domain controller

We are testing a restore in in Lab.When we restored from netback we are able to recover the windows 2008 domain controller from backup.I am not recovering all domain,only primary domain controller only restoring and deleted other domain from meta data cleanup.But we found that sysvol and  Netlogon shares are missing. i followed the one article and changed the burflag from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process at Startup....the netlogon folder was still empty.

The  c:\windows\sysvol_dfsr\sysvol folder is shared but is empty so there can never be a netlogon folder. I
Restarting Netlogon service has made no difference. 

Shall i copy the  netlogn from backup and manually paste in sysvol folder.Is there any other way.Kindly send the correct step.

Weird Task Scheduler

Hi,

I have several tasks scheduled by night. This tasks lauch commands on a Linux Oracle server.

I have a problem with one tasks (actually the last of the night) that always fails. It has been scheduled at 6am, but when I look at the log it always begins at 8am ! When I control it every day it's not 8am yet !

On the image you can yee the server time, the log when it fails and the time at when I launched the task manually.

If someone has an idea...

Windows service error : "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

Hi,

I had created a Windows service to start and stop a Tomcat server. Whenever the Tomcat server runs with Multi threaded objects and if i try to stop the Tomcat using the Windows service I'm getting the following error , "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or
control request in a timely fashion".

I cannot change the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" value as my services will be running in the client machine. Is there anyother way I can make windows services to wait till my Application server excutes all the threads and shuts down. Im using Windows server 2008.

NLB Node Access Hang

When adding 6 ip Addresses into the NLB, the Management Tool (Network Load Balancing Manager) access both nodes without any delay on a Windows Server 2008 R2 - Enterprise Edition, but after adding/binding 3 additional ip Addresses the Management Tool hour glasses momentarily for about 1 minute.  And the second node hangs at applying user settings and applying group policy registry settings when logon takes place.   However, the management tool accesses both nodes in the NLB without delay.

Furthermore, if roles are reversed between node 1 and node 2 the issue is identical, but on the opposite nodes.

Is this actually normal or is there an issue with the NLB?

I removed the NLB entirely from both nodes; which requires a reboot.  Then added feature back afterwards, resulting with the same issue.

Any suggestions - Or is there a break fix patch available.  And or will this require a complete rebuild of both nodes?

Cannot join computer to domain if RODC is turned on.

Hi, I'm facing a strange issue, we have a branch site with RODC installed. When I try to join a machine located on that site it fails, and no event viewer errors are logged in.

If I turn off the RODC it works properly. This is happening in another sites too, anyone can help me on this please?

Clipboard does not work for fliles between Win7 and Win2012

Hi,

I have found that I am not able to copy files through the clipboard from my Windows 7 to a Windows Server 2012 R2.

I can however copy text to the server.

I can also copy files from Windows 7 to Windows 2008 R2 through the clipboard.

Any advice?

Error Code 802433004 Windows Server Update

Dears,

I want to manually doing Windows update for server 2008 R2 and Windows server 2012 R2, but when I run update it will give me error Code 80243004. I know this error is related to WSUS, what I did, I went to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Polices\Microsoft\Windows\Windows update and removed WSUS file then I went to C:\\Widnows\SoftwareDistribution\Download nd removed downloads then restart machine, but still same error back.

Dynamic IP address while machine is booting

Hi ,

when I have enabled Dynamic IP address , so when the computer boots up will it contact nearest DHCP server ?

How will it know , I should contact specific DHCP server(Probably ISP provider DHCP server) in order to get IP?

please let me know how this process works while booting the machine.

WMI Consumes all the CPU Windows server 2008

Hi All the strange issue is Our Windows server 2008 which is a Domain controller every time it consumes CPU above 90 % the process Windows management instrument consumes more than 60%.


Every time it happens we restarts WMI service and it gets to normal but it keeps happening again and again every time we need to restart WMI service anyone found any permanent solutions?
