Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Kind regards!

Dns Scavenging not working 2012R2

$

I have read the other posts on this subject and TechNet articles and believe I have my aging set right but still I see dns records from years past. Let me explain what I have set.

On one domain controller that hosts DNS

Server properties/advanced - Enable Automatic Scavenging checked scavenging period set for 8 days

On the AD integrated zone I want to age

zone/properties/aging - Scavenge Stale resource records checked both no refresh and refresh set to 8 days

On the A records themselves in this zone above

View/Advanced record properties - Delete this record when it becomes stale is checked. On this particular one I am looking at right now the time stamp is 1/7/2016 3:00 PM

What am I missing?

I don't want to just choose Scavenge stale records under the DNS server itself as there are several zones I do not want to scavenge and I don't trust this process enough as it has never worked. However I don't believe I need to chose that anyway since all the automatic aging sites are setup to run after 8 days.  I have dozens of stale records some going back to 2014 so clearly it is not working

Thank you

Windows 2008R2 SPPSVC problems : cannot stop service, requires cold reboot

Hi.

I've stumbled across one of the strangest issues I've ever seen in Windows Servers:

We've got a Windows 2008R2 server ( running over Hyper-V ) and Office 2013 plus, users connect to RDS. All was working well until some point in time a few weeks ago.

Office ( MAK activation ) would "become unactivated" from time to time ( interval of about 4 days ), my first measure was trying to reactivate using the MAK key. That didn't work.

Then I tryied to uninstall Office, tried the office removal tool. Then tried to install, but found out Windows Update was damaged. Then I fixed Windows Update Services and Re-installed Office 2013, then used MAK key activation. But something was wrong: Windows was unable to reboot gracefully. Every time these problems start, I have to cold reboot.

All was well for a week, then I moved to KMS. And that's when I found out that there's something wrong with sppsvc, and not the activation itself, because a simple Reboot ( cold, because the service seem to freeze ) solves the problem for a few days.

When the problem starts to happen, the "Account" page in any Office application shows all blank info ( like an empty form ).

Whenever it happens, I simply cannot stop sppsvc, I run net stop sppsvc  I get the result "Software PRotection Service Could not be stopped". Then I try to run net stop sppsvc again an the result is "Software PRotection Service is being started or stopped. Please try again later".

I've checked Events, nothing specific.. ran sfc /scannow , ran chkdsk to no avail....

I've done my research extensively, but found absolutely nothing useful...

I'm not sure if it is related, but sometimes, a userinit.exe gets hung ( renders the user desktop black), and I have to cold reboot the server too.

Thanks in advance!

Does being logged on to an ASP Host, but disconnected from the remote session use RAM?

My team connects remotely to the asp host using Microsoft Server 2008 R2. We are consistent about exiting the application we use on the remote server, but we are not good about logging off properly from the server. We do disconnect our session according to the vendor we are using. They are saying by not logging off properly we are using RAM on the server. Is this accurate?  The vendor states these improperly logged off users (maybe 2 or 3) are causing problems when 1 process is being ran by 1 user that all the RAM is used and the process will error out.

Windows MiBs

We use a monitoring tool from CA called Spectrum. I'm attempting to create some rules around global collections that will populate them based on the operating system. However I can not seem to find an attribute that tells me what the Operating System is.

Now I did find that Windows does have several MiBs and I've loaded these.

However none of the included MiBs seems to have any attribute support for the OS. Does anyone know of any other Mibs and where I can download them? or am I just missing something

I have a Windows Server 2008 R1 SP1 and I am getting the message "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it" and followed instructions in this link:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2012/08/10/mmc-has-detected-an-error-in-a-snap-in-and-will-unload-it.aspx

I installed the Hotfix Rollup 2688730 but I keep getting the message when I try to open Event Viewer and Server Manager. I will very much appreciate your help to solve my issue so our sever works correctly.

PD: This issue appeared after installing Windows Server 2008 updates.

Respectfully,

Ramifications of moving a server to a new site.

Currently I have 2 sites configured;

  1. HQ
  2. UK

We have servers in AD SS listed as part of HQ that are located Downtown and we are having issues with slow logins, and users are being forced to log into the server (which is a Domain controller) authenticating against servers located at HQ.

I just want to know, are there any issues i should know of before I move the server to its own site (lets call it DT) and give it the proper subnet assignment so that when users log in they are actually logging into the servers at the DT site instead (since it will now know that it is local to DT not HQ).

So yeah, should i fear any major critical issues that could bring the network to a halt by doing this?

We want to Upgrade a server using DISM. The server is running five instances of SQL Server 2008 R2. Is there anything we should be aware of when we do the upgrade? Should the SQL services be disabled during the Upgrade?

Server 2008R2 VM safe boot only after full disk.

Greetings,

We have a 2008R2 VM running on a 2008R2 Enterprise server.  The VM ran out of space and went unresponsive.  We turned it off and back on again.  When it boots, it gives a BSOD.  The only way we can get it to boot is in safe mode.  I've found a variety of 10005 messages in the event logs, and also an entry showing 13 drivers were not loaded.  I'm having a hard time figuring out what was the cause and what are symptoms of the problem.  Here are things I've done with no luck:

1. Extended the file system and rebooted.

2. Ran a clean boot with all services disabled.

3. Ran sfc /scannow

4. Ran chkdsk /F

5. Ran the repair option from a 2008R2 disk

6. Ran the memory check from the recovery options window

I haven't had any luck getting the dumpchk.exe from a debugger to run.  I have files from the server available to view.

Any help with an accurate starting point would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Plans to extend DH key size on NPS (EAP) to support modern dot1x clients?

Many operating systems (specifically iOS, OS X and Chrome OS) are beginning to phase out weak DH keys. When can we expect a patch to be released to upgrade the DH key size used by NPS with EAP to be at least 2048 bits? This is forcing me to deploy FreeRADIUS as a temporary fix until NPS gets fixed.

Multipoint Server Configuration Error - Windows Multipoint Server 2012

When booting up our Windows Multipoint Server 2012 server we get the following error:

====================================================
Multipoint Server Configuration Error

Multipoint Server has detected a misconfiguration.

The installed graphics display adapter driver must be specifically designed for the installed hardware.
Install the latest display adapter from the manufacturers website.

To resolve these problems, press any key to put the computer in console mode, and then log on using an administrator account.

Windows Multipoint Server 2012

I've Googled and researched the error and it seems that this a known issue that s still under investigation - but already dated . . .

Any advice? Has a solution already been found?

Able to connect to WHS 2011 box in Win 10, until any software is updated

$

I can get the Connector software to work for both of the machines in my home (one a Win 7 Pro to Win 10 upgrade, one a brand new HP Envy that came with Win 10). However, on reboot it's a crap shoot whether the connector will work or not. If it doesn't, I get the 'do you want to be in disconnected mode' question and the only way to fix it is to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall the connector. This seems to happen whenever anything gets updated - Windows Update, Steam, Office, whatever the software, 75% of the time an update whacks the connector software.

Needless to say, this is incredibly frustrating.  Any suggestions on how I can get this running and stable?

About Designing Server Infrastructure

My Questions: I not sure if I need to make 3 separate forest root domain or I only make the CAN Server the Parent domain and the other 2 server is child domain?

Project Specifications
Description
THE FIRM is an international automobile sales company. The company has its
headquarters in CANADA and two satellite sites, one in JAPAN and the other in
FRANCE.
The company wishes to create sales teams made up of employees of the the three sites.

Your team has been hired to connect and configure THE FIRM’s TCP/IP networks so
that regardless of their location, the users may communicate with each other. In order to
ensure rapid information sharing between sites, you must install an IIS server (Internet
Information Server) on the CANADA site and create a landing page for the company. In
order to allow for an efficient sharing of files, the JAPAN server must be configured as a
NFS server for the company.

The network diagram and useful information is provided below.
(Note : each location is connected by a T1 line leased by the company. Each line
establishes a direct connection between the servers.

"Open command window here" on a network location using context menu option in Windows Explorer creates duplicate network mappings

In my employer's intranet, we have numerous servers. When I go to manually execute programs on these, I use the hidden feature of the Windows Explorer context menu to open a command window on the directory with the executables (by holding the shift key when right-clicking).

Every time I do this, a new network mapping is added to the Network Locations in the "My Computer" location of Windows Explorer, even if there is already one for the server (note that this is the same region that is populated by clicking"Map network drive"). By the end of the day I'll have a dozen of these pointing to the same server (because I am OCD about closing windows after I'm done with them).

And when I disconnect from these mapped network locations, they often warn me of processes still using the connection, even after closing the command prompt window.

dcpromo demote win2k3 server

I have a Win2k3 DC that has one of my DNS servers on it.  I have removed all of the FSMO roles and confirmed they are removed.  The user is a part of the Enterprise Admin group.   When i try to remove the DC through dcpromo I get the following error in the dcpromo.log.  I would like to keep from using /forceremoval but is this a sign of something wrong in my AD or just on the DC i am trying to remove.

Cannot sign in after joining domain. (Password always incorrect even after it is reset!)

I recently upgraded a computer to Windows 10 Pro. When Windows 8.1 was installed, connecting to the domain went fine. So was signing in. As soon as I upgraded to Windows 10, it alerts me that my password is incorrect no matter how many times I change the password and make sure it's correct. It won't even let me sign in as one of the administrator accounts that we have set up on the domain. When I change the password with the domain controller and set it to change password next time user signs in, it let's me change the password. But right after I change it, it says it's incorrect again. What's weird is that when I go to Other User, it automatically comes up with a password box but no username box. I'm thinking now that it's a glitch with Windows 10 Pro. I have a Lenovo Ideacentre 300-20ISH. Any suggestions?
