I cannot register a new software on my windows 2003 server.
Apparently the new server requires the uuid. For some reason It cannot get the uuid. I issue the following comand : wmic csproduct get uuid and instead I get phase error -3 compiler returned error 0x80041002. I suspect the problem happen anfter a server regular windows update.
Any help/idea/suggestion will be appreciated.

I've set up VAMT 3.0 to perform KMS activations for Windows Server 2008 R2 / 2012. The associated database is on a separate SQL server. All works well as expected.
However, the only database permission that appears to allow access is dbowner. We've tried datareader / datawriter but I get the "The specified database is not a valid VAMT database" message.
If we grant a user dbowner they can view and use the database without issue.
The only support article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2755159?wa=wsignin1.0) on the error message relates to creation of the database, but our database has already been created and in use.
Any suggestions?

Hi, I just came across a 2-node clustered fileserver at work, and found something interesting. One of the nodes is having huge perfomance isses, both CPU and RAM, and I managed to drill down to the problem, which is caching of the MFT.
The server is Win2008 R2 64bit, With 12 GB of RAM, and after running ramMAP, it shows that the Metafile is using 11.2 GB out of 12 in total. I suspect it could be related to the backup Application on the server (NetBackup).
What really makes me interested, is why the MFT filesize for a disk is over 31 GB in size (checked with NTFSInfo).
The disk I am talking about, is 2 TB in size, where around 1 TB is in use. And romaing profiles are stored here. Total number of files are around 1.3 million ( 1 300 000). After reading some information about MFT, I still cannot understand why the MFT is so
big in size.
Let me start by saying I don't know too much about Server 2008.
I have Server set up so desktop clients (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) can log in as their user on their own machines. On two of the client machines (mine and my bosses, I have admin rights on everything) a couple funny things are happening:
1. Can't open a Word or Excel file by double clicking the icon on the desktop. Error is as follows:
Excel
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\PERSONAL.XLSB'. There are several possible reasons: The file name or path does not exist. The file is being used by another program. The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
Word
The file Normal.dotm cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.
and then
Word cannot open this document template. (C:\Users\(username)\...\AVWiz14s.dotm)
and then
Word cannot open the existing file. (Normal)
and then Word stops responding.
Note that I can open these documents normally from the start menu. I have determined this error has something to do with the server because I have tried a bunch of stuff on the internet, including an Excel hotfix, which did nothing.
2. Desktop icons flicker, rearrange themselves, and even disappear completely at times. I do not know what causes this, but I do believe this is a server issue.
3. I get recycle bin errors every time I log in, and every time I try to delete anything:
The Recycle Bin on \\intecserver\Office Employee Files\kneureuter\My Documents\My Videos is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?
Sometimes I get that error for 3-4 different directories.
What I've tried:
I tried reinstalling Office, and that made no difference.
I have the drive from the server "Office Employee Files" mapped to network drive Y:. I can open that and go to my account folder on there, navigate to "Desktop" and open the files from there, but not on the physical desktop on my computer.
These files aren't shortcuts on the desktop, their permanent home is on the desktop.
Just to reiterate, if I moved these files into a folder on the desktop, they will open fine. If I open them from within Excel or Word, they open fine. If I open them from the server drive mapped onto my terminal, they open fine. Just can't open them by double-clicking the file if it is directly on the desktop. Any ideas?
I logged onto my account from a different computer and double-clicking to open the files worked fine on that computer. Both computers running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Office 2010 Pro. So that limits it to this machine and my bosses machine.
Since you can't create a shortcut for something on the desktop, I created a new folder on the desktop and put the files in that folder. From there I created a shortcut and put that on the desktop. That worked!
However, that's just a band-aid. I need to fix this problem sooner than later.Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
I have an old Win2003 DC that has a CA running on it. I think it was installed specifically for RADIUS use with authenticated Wifi clients on a Cisco WLC. The Win2003 DC is now the last of the Win2003 Servers on the domain and am looking at getting everything of value migrated from it so that it can be retired. In looking at the CA, if I stop the service, I get errors logged on the Win2008 DCs. So there is something being issued from the Win2003CA in regards to replication I guess, but not sure, because the certificate that I can see in the console expired earlier this year. I know that this domain existed without a CA installed anywhere for several years though.
I would like to get the CA off this Server. Is it possible to just uninstall/decommision the CA and install a new CA on another server or must I migrate this one? And if I must migrate it, how can I put the CA on a Server with a different name? I think the only reason that I need a CA at all is for RADIUS use in NPS for WiFi authentication.

Error is : Location not available C:\Windows\System32\Config\SystemProfile\Desktop is not accessible. Access Denied.
I dont know how to fix this issue and little scared coz its a server system.

This question has been asked a few times here, but I'm looking for an answer that will work in my situation (if one exists!)
My company is about to deploy Windows Server 2012 R2, and I'm writing the build scripts to automate a load of tasks after sysprep has finished doing its job. As we're a global company, which has adopted a follow-the-sun support model, we need to maintain global standards on the Windows Server image and post-deployment configuration. Meaning a SINGLE image for ALL regions.
Among these tasks is joining the domain, and detecting which region the server has been deployed to and configuring the default regional, language and input settings to that region. The image itself is configured for en-US, which is fine if we're deploying a server in the US. However, I need to completely change the region, input and display language etc. to en-GB and en-AU respectively when deploying servers in those regions (I'm from the UK).
Now I've figured out how to do this for the current user using powershell:
Set-Culture en-GB Set-WinSystemLocale en-GB Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId 242 Set-WinUserLanguageList en-GB
However, I need to copy these setting to both the welcome screen (most important for password entry), and the default user account. Typically you'd do this in the GUI here:
However, as I'm trying to automate the entire process, I want to avoid any GUI work by the engineer who's deploying the server. I want to automate this process.
The only way that I've found MIGHT work is exporting the current user registry settings for the following:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MuiCached HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload
I then make changes to the keys to either en-GB or en-AU regions (using correct ID's where applicable), change the HKEY to HKU\.DEFAULT and import the reg file with the script.
This is all very messy and actually doesn't work fully. I've ended up with everything looking like it's in the UK region EXCEPT the display language. So the input language actually states it's in UK but in reality its still US. Additionally new users are getting US keyboard and display languages. Everything else is OK though.
So my question is centered around the whole copy process to both welcome screens and default accounts. Is it possible to cleanly script this in either powershell, cmd, or regedit?

On my Certificate server I noticed a warning says my CDP Location #1 was Expiring. Does this auto renew or do I need to do something? This DeltaCRL Location #1 expires on the same date but it shows OK.
I have a server that not receiving updates via WSUS. Other servers in the group are working just fine, it's just this server that is experiencing issues. I have the server setup in a "non AD environment" and have double checked all registry settings to ensure they not only match the other servers they match the configuration recommendations seen here:

This server (2008 R2 64bit) will detect new updates, but will not initiate an install against any of them. I am sure that I have left something out, please let me know what information I can add to help.

FYI, in between updates, a reboot of these VMs goes fine.

I have a VM setup that started out with a secondary 20GB logical drive for data. Now I need to bump it up. I have the unallocated space available, but I cannot extend the drive. It's worked before, unless I'm missing something. Any ideas?

I do apologizes if I post this in the wrong section or if this question has already been answer. I try searching but I can't fix anything that fixes my problem.
I am using robocopy to copy a network copy to a folder.
robocopy J:\ \\ca-fileserver\Backup\ca-datsrv05\ /MIR /m /COPYALL /ZB /ETA /R:2 /W:2 /NP /FFT
When this started, robocopy gets me an error 5: access denied.
The command runs as an administrator at both locations. I can manuelly cut and paste the files and get no error messages. It there something I am doing wrong?

I understand that I need to use sysprep to clear out certain Unique information from a cloned machine. However, the image that came with the machine is getting an error whenever i run sysprep with the /generalize option, and it will proceed with to the OOBE screen. It would however, go through if i don't use the /generalize option - but i think it does not clear out the SID without it.
Is there an alternate way to clear/generate the SID besides sysprep and NewSID -which i believe is no longer supported by microsoft. Or perhaps is there a way to do it via AD GPO?

I'm using SSTP VPN for remote access which needs VPN server certificate to be trusted.
For domain computers I just deploy Root CA certificate with group policy.
I would like to automate installation of the certificate for non domain joined computers cause it's a bit tricky for some users to import certificate to Computer store. :)
Does anyone have any ideas how to do this?

how old is backup data ? if the disk is full the windows backup delete old deleted files , or modified files ? or exist percentual fill for this ?
and if I want using two usb disk for one to trezor and second for weekly backup . If I create automatic backup for folder to back up to volume and change disk , the backup create new backup set and ovewrite old backup ?
