Hi,

Please excuse my naivety in the question but I have never really worked in Active directory admin nor have I set up a working one from scratch.

I have a simple 2008 domain with one DC and several application servers attached to it. For one of my servers and the application sitting on it I need to create a secure SSL certificate for it. The problem is when I create the certificate it is asking for the following information

C=<countrycode>

S=<Province>

L=<Location>

O=<Organisation Name>

OU=<Department/Organisational Unit>        (Can be more than one)

CN=<Common Name of you’re server>         (Full DNS Server Name)

However  and I have found this on goolge if I run dsquery computer -name SERVERNAME on my Domain controller it returns the common name but nothing else. Is this because I have set any of the other stuff up and if so can someone explain how I do that? If all that stuff isn't set I can't request the needed certificate.

Thanks in advance for your help

Andy

Thanks Andy

Background story : Firstly, it was fine when i use my OEM laptop previously and i reformatted it. After reformatting, They prompt that the it is somewhat expiring.(i am not sure about this) After this i got a water mark in the desktop background and keep forcing me to activate windows. After this, i tried tons of ways to activate windows but to no avail.

Error: No key management service could be contacted.

Any idea how to solve this?

Is it possible to resume a Technet Akamai Netsession Download?

I was trying to download the evaluation copy of Server 2012 R2, to do this you have to install Akamai NetSession Interface once installed the download starts in the actual Technet webpage i.e Akami doesnt seem to have a Windows GUI anymore.

Now halfway through I had to restart my PC for unrelated reasons, is there a way to resume my download?

I have the partial download sitting in my docs folder and I have tried starting the download over again through the website but it seems to start from zero. Any help would be great.

You can see the screenshot of the browser based download interface attached.

Hotfix for .V3 and .V4 Roaming Profiles

$

Hi

Before I arrived the setup was as follows. There was windows 2008 and windows 2012 RDS servers with the remote desktop services profile and the profile each  going to a separate share. This set-up was working fine until the server that hosted the two shares died.

The shares were recreated on a new server, the data copied across and the both of the profile settings were updated.

Since then the windows 2012 profiles have not worked and come up with a message saying that it can no longer access the server copy, using a local copy and that the changes can not be saved.

I have done some research into this issue and have found

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2887239/en-gb

When I looked at the profiles they have .v2 which I take it are the windows 2008 version and not the .v3 which is the windows 2012 version.

Now I'm almost ready to apply the hotfix and follow the document above.

The question is do I.

A) just apply the hotfix to the windows 2012 terminal servers.

B) Apply the hotfix just to where the terminal profiles are being stored, on a windows 2008 server

C) apply the hotfix to both the windows 2012 terminal servers and the place where they are being stored.

The document is not clear on what should be done.

Cheers

Jason

Windows Server 2008 R2 180 Day Trial License

Hi,

I'm running the Windows 2008 R2 Trial on VMware Player.  As you can see from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=11093

...it says it's a 180 day evaluation.  But further down on the page there is no trial key.  All there is is a mention that it can be activated 5 times at 10 days per activation.  When it pops up saying that my copy is illegal, it takes me to a website selling Windows 7 licenses.

I've read other articles on this and there doesn't seem to be an answer as to where the trial keys are, or what process you follow to get your 180 day evaluation?  Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,
Adrian

DHCP Subnet Mask change

Hello all, I was following the advice at:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/8484.how-to-easily-change-a-dhcp-s-scope-subnet.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

  and have run into an issue. After successfully exporting the scope configuration and changing the subnet mask in the text file I ran the netsh exec c:\dhcp.txt command which resulted in a few errors including "DCHP Server Scope Add IP Range Failed" and "The specified DHCP client is not a reserved client." I only have one scope so I read on other forums I should try recreating the DCHP.mdb file but had no success with that. At this point I have restored to my backup but still need to change the subnet mask for the scope and would rather not have to rebuild it from scratch. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have downloaded Windows Server 2008 with no difficulty, however when I go to install it I run into issues.  It loads into either one of two locations, 'C' Drive, disc 0 which it says is not compatible, GTP format or Disc 4 on my external HD.  It will not load from this second location because it says program is not bootable from a USB port.  Is there a work-a-round?

Hi

I  am not sure if this the appropriate location for this question but anyway...  I am trying to refresh an old evaluation server with a valid license.

I perform the upgrade  to the existing O/s with the CD1 of win2003R2.  Part way through the install I get dialog box:  "the file 'install.exe' on Windows 2003 disk 2 is needed". However,  there is no "install.exe or "install.ex_" on the(win2003R2) CD 2.

Now,  I know from a bit research that this is a known issues with a work around of uninstalling .NET2.  I just wondered if this was really the best approach as I have also .NET 3.51 on the server and various apps which makes uninstalling .NET 2.0 a bad move.....

Hi,

I have hundreds of servers and I need to monitor if all servers are in sync or - if not - how much they are drifting.

Is their any log in Windows that would allow me to find this info or - if not - any script that would allow me to gather those information on all servers?

Thank you

Win remote mgmt 10154 - DNS client 1014 -DHCP Server 1056 Winint 11 - TermDD 56 - SRV 2012

Strangely Between 20th and 26th aug some related events i.e. E100B 4 (Network adapter link down) would also occur at this time but now dont. We updated drivers and tried different NICs but this made no difference.

The RAM is also maxed out permanently although I believe that this is common on SBS servers.

Can someone assist in diagnosis please. As I said I will update Exchange to sp3 and see how that goes.

Gratefully

Peter

I am trying to back up a win2012r2 file server with Appassure 5.4.2.192.  The server backed up all drives successfully for a week and then the D: of the server grayed out in Appassure.  I spent a week with Appassure tech support and they have concluded that it is a VSS issue.

The tech did all manner of VSS testing, removing/adding, I am not sure what all.

VSSadmin list writers shows all Stable.

We are transitioning from Backup Exec to Appassure (trying to anyway), so the server runs both the Appassure agent & the BE agent, however so do the rest of my servers and they are having no issues.

The only VSS event I have is 12290:

Any suggestions as to what I could look at next before I call MS support?

Thanks
