Network issues after join domain

$

Hi folks! At our facility, we migrate our domain servers, from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2, but we are experiencing some network issues. After a machine joins the domain, it loses network. This only happens with machines with Windows 7/8/Server 2008/Server 2012. This happened even when the domain servers were Windows Server 2003 R2. If the machine has Windows XP as the operating system, it works fine. We only are able to obtain network connection when we set an fixed IP.

Has anyone come across with this problem? Let me know what any aditional information is required to diagnose and solve this problem.

Licensing issue

Hi all,

We have got a licensing issue with a Windows 2008 R2 server.

It keeps asking to go online to be activated. However, in the properties of the server it is clearly stated that it has been activated.

This confuse us.

Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks,

Multiple Versions of JDK on Windows Server 2008 R2

I have a Windows 2008 Standard Server x64 server that I want to run two applications on. One requires JDK 1.6.0-27 and the other requires 1.7.0_01. I know I can safely have multiple versions of the JRE on the Windows servers because I already have that. How about the JDKS? Will that work?

need to install Local Storage for Message Queuing on Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit, WON'T INSTALL, Fails...

Hi

I am trying to install the Local Storage component for Message Queuing on Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit, is wont install, it failes. I'ved pasted the error message.

I am migrating our company web site to a new server, and i need message queuing to communicate with our back office server, this is a snap shot of messaging queuing on the old server, also Windows server 2003, but 32-bit, SP1.

If i need to get this from the CD, how would i do that? I wouldn't think the Message Queuing component would be so different from one OS version to the next, this is a little newer server.

Could someone point me toward the solution?

thanks!

Files transferred from other systems mark as Hidden with check box grayed out. How do I fix this?

We are working on switching all Hyper-V hosts from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012. Unfortunately, all folders transferred from Server 2008 R2 to 2012 are getting marked as "Hidden" on the destination location. The Hidden box is grayed out and I have not been able to change it via command line.

Why is Server 2012 marking files as hidden?

How do I fix it?

How do I keep all future transferred folders from being marked Read-Only and Hidden?

I should also note, if I transfer the same folder from Server 2008 R2 to a different 2008 r2 machine, I do not get this symptom.

Trying to add windows 2012 server to existing domain from remote site through Cisco ASA VPN.  Receiving 'the specified network name is no longer available' error. Have tried everything I can find on forums and google searches to no avail.  Remote site ASA is configured just as our other remote sites are, able to resolve domain by ping and nslookup. I have attempted to put the DNS suffix in the static IP as well, still no luck.  Have had our network guy trace traffic through the ASA VPn and he sees TCP traffic going to the home data center.   Here is the netsetup log.

Can't enable Windows Firewall, code 0x8007042c

Hello,

I have been having problems starting Windows Firewall after an Trojan Horse Generic 33.cdpk attack a few days ago which I had removed with HitmanPro after AVG could not remove it. After the attack I could not start Windows Security Center but was able to get it running after downloading the necessary registry keys that was missing. Now I cannot start Windows Firewall even though it is in the list of services when I try to start it I get this message : Windows could not start the Windows Firewall service on Local Computer.  Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. Base Filtering Engine is also not starting though it is an automatic start up. Upon trying to start BFE I get another message: Windows could not start the Base Filtering Engine service on Local Computer. Error 5: access is denied. I ran Command prompt with administrator permissions and attempted to start mpssvc by running this command :net start mpssvc but got this message :System error 1068 has occured: The dependency service or group failed to start. What can I do to get Firewall up and running again?

Debug NIC re-initialization after Reboot

Hi,

iam not sure is this is the right Forum but give it a try: when booting a cloned vm
i can see that the NICs are re-initializing. After Login iam not able to start the
Network Center until the nics are fully initialized which take about 3-4 Minutes.
After that everything is fine. The machine is a Windows Server 2008R2 and
Host is a XenServer 6.1. The vm is cloned by Citrix Provisioning Services.

Is there any way to debug whats going on when re-initializing the NICs to find
out the root cause of this Event ?

Thanks a lot,

- Marco

Windows Update on Server 2003 fails with with error 0x8024402f

The issue is with Server 2003 SP2 STD 32-bit

Installed the following right after installation:
Installed R2
Installed latest stand-alone Windows Update Agent 3.0
Installed latest MSI installer (KB942288 v4)
Installed .NET 3.5 SP1
Installed .NET 4.0
Installed PowerShell 2 (KB968930)
Installed updated iSCSI Storport driver (KB957910)
Installed IE 8

Then I try to install Updates. Get error 0x8024402f when it starts searching for updates.

Windows Update log indicates the following:

It appears the hash is wrong. Since the file is hosted with Microsoft, I cannot fix this.

I have verified the following:
- correct time zone and date/time
- uninstalled .NET 4.0
- re-installed .NET 4.0
- Stopped WUAUSERV and BITS, deleted SoftwareDistribution folder content and restarted the services
- I can and did install Microsoft Update ActiveX via IE (versus Windows Update)
- DNS is resolving domain names correctly
- I scanned and validated the system is virus free
- I am not on WSUS
- I did try the manual resolutions from several KB articles with no success (2003 didn't want to run FitItForMe diagcab files out of the box)
- I have built this out on physical hardware and virtuals with the same result (I have done 10 installations in the last 2 days to figure out what is going on since production servers are affected)
- I do have the latest Windows Update client

Accessing Windows Server 2008 folder share from a Mac

I have three Windows 2008 R2 domain servers which replicate a "company share" folder between them. A mac laptop can connect to the share on two of the servers utilizing the users domain credentials. On the third server the share can only be accessed using the the domain administrator account credentials. Not sure what to make of this or where the problem would be?

IIS 6 SMTP virtual server fails with 535 Authentication failed Windows Server 2008 R2

I've gone through all of the suggested topics, but I still can't get this to work.  I've done this once before and it worked without a hitch.  I copied that configuration as closely as possible but I just can't get the IIS SMTP server to act as a relay agent.  Specifically what I did last time:

  1. Setup IIS 6 with SMTP
  2. Allowed the server IP, 127.0.0.1, and the server name for connection and relay
  3. Set outgoing security to basic with email@domain.com and password in the basic authentication fields
  4. set port to 25 (on this system I had to use 3535, as this client has verizon who blocks port 25)
  5. Confirmed that I could telnet to the the mail server on port 25/3535 and issue a ehlo command
  6. Pointed the printer scan to email directly to the server's ip address and everything worked

Now, whenever I try to send a message out I get:

And yes, I confirmed the credentials by logging in through the web interface and copying and pasting the username and password to be extra sure. Sorry to block out some of the information above, but this is client data and I don't want them to start receiving crazy mail because of me.

Any ideas what is going on?  Does auth work differently when you use a non-standard port like 3535? The only real difference is that the other client is not on verizon and I was able to use port 25 for delivery.  Bother servers are 2008 R2, both outgoing addresses are secureserver.net based SMTP addresses, etc.  Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Roaming Profile/Redirected folders issue with DFS...

We currently host our Remote Desktop user profiles and redirected desktops and mydocs on DFS shares.  The DFS Namespace is hosted one several servers and the targets are on two servers.  The first folder target server is running Server 2008 R2 and the second folder target server is running Server 2012.  The remote desktop session hosts are running Server 2008 R2. We have made no changes to either server nor DFS in the last two weeks.  The last two mornings users have come in and gotten temporary profiles and their file redirection has failed.

Here are the associated event log entries for the profile:

Based upon the errors it would be natural to assume there was a permissions error.  I've reviewed the share level and ntfs permissions and found them to be consistent with recommendations on technet.  When I login with administrator credentials I get a temporary profile as well.  I can navigate to the DFS share from the run dialog and the share is accessible.  After I access the DFS share I log off the RDS session host and back on and I get my profile and redirected folders.  All users who login after that point also get their profiles and redirected folders successfully.  For the rest of the day we have no issues.  We only have these issues first thing in the morning.

I am stumped.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Why as an admin can I not install a .msi package on Windows Server 2008 R2?

$

I am an Active Directory user that is in the 'Administrators' group on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server we have.  When I attempt to install any setup packages I deploy to the server that are .msi packages, I receive the following error:

"You do not have sufficient privileges to complete the installation for all users of the machine. Log on as administrator and then retry the installation."

The thing is I am an Administrator.  Is the 'local' administrator account theonly account allowed to install .msi packages?  I talked to my server admin and they didn't know why this is occuring since we just started using 2008 R2.  If it was a configuration he would be happy to change it so users in the 'Administrators' group can install .msi packages. I can install .exe packages, but for this setup package I only have the .msi file.

Anyone know how to fix this or update the configuration?

Wecutil.exe to apply xml file to an existing subscription

Can I use wecutil with the /c:CONGIG_FILE for an existing subscription?

I would like to just edit the xml file and reapply it instead of having the delete and recreate a subscription every time I edit the file (I would like to do this instead of using wecutil commands to set parameters).

I use the /c: option to my recently edit xml file will it just apply the new settings to the existing subscription?

Hello All,

I have an interesting group of errors that always trigger at 3:00 AM Event ID 2001, 1023, 1000 and 1008. I will show the errors below and what steps I have done so far. See attached image for event log.

A note my backup runs at the time. Steps I have taken so far.

To restart the W3SVC:

      • Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
      • At the command prompt, type NET STOP W3SVC.
      • At the command prompt, type NET START W3SVC.

    ASP.NET 2.0, 64-bit version

To run the 64-bit version of ASP.NET 2.0, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    2. Type the following command to disable the 32-bit mode:
      cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 0
    3. Type the following command to install the version of ASP.NET 2.0 and to install the script maps at the IIS root and under:
      %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
        • Make sure that the status of ASP.NET version 2.0.50727 is set to Allowed in the Web service extension list in Internet Information Services Manager.

        lodctr /r

Ensure that the counters are not disabled in the registry

The counters may be disabled via registry settings. Please check the following registry locations to ensure that the counters have not been disabled.

        HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\%servicename%\Performance

%servicename% represents any service with a performance counter. For example: PerfDisk, PerfOS, etc.

There may be registry keys for "DisablePerformanceCounters" in any of these locations. As per the following TechNet article, this value should be set to 0. If the value is anything other than 0 the counter may be disabled.

        Disable Performance Counters
        http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784382.aspx

A value of 1 means the counter is disabled.
A value of 2 means the 32-bit counter is disabled.
A value of 4 measn the 64-bit counter is disabled.

Rebuilding all performance counters including extensible and third-party counters

To rebuild all Performance counters including extensible and third-party counters, type the following commands at an Administrative command prompt. Press ENTER after each command.

        Rebuilding the counters:
             cd c:\windows\system32
             lodctr /R
             cd c:\windows\sysWOW64
             lodctr /R

Resyncing the counters with Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI):
             WINMGMT.EXE /RESYNCPERF

Stop and restart the Performance Logs and Alerts service.
Stop and restart the Windows Management Instrumentation service.

Create a new Data Collector Set (do not use an existing Data Collector Set).

There are a few other things I have done but these errors persist. Let me know what other steps I can take. Thank you for your time.

        -Jeremy

We have had three Windows server 2008 that have hanged at this moment. Two of them never recovered and had to be reinstalled!? Now a third one did the same this morning our external webserver and i find it absolutely incredible that this is not beeing fixed from Microsoft. We cannot relay on the OS and we are very very tired of this problem. What are we goint to do the next update? It has been at differnet times regarding different updates I cannot find a common thing about the incidents other then OS. Please do you have any idea of how to prevent this from happening again?

Another question what about 2008 R2 is it a more stable OS? Iwill not by another windows server 2008 so we have to think of a replacement OS?

        Hi Guys

Have a windows 2008 R2 SP1 Standard server that was reporting Non Genuine version.

A college of mine tried a few fixes and was unable to fix this include a repair of the server.

I was able to remove the message by just uninstall Sophos Anti-virus. I have had a similar problem with Bit Defender.

Unfortunally the system now has other problem.

        Unable to do windows update.

Event log service will not start Access Denied

Software protect service will not start access denied.

Opening MMC or other windows app reports Publisher unknown.

I have run sfc /scannow as well as reimporting catroot2 and cat root folder. I also used process monitor to locate event log folder causing with Access denied and change the writes to this folder. Unable to start event log or Software protect.

If anyone has any other idea on how to fix this I would like to hear.

        0

I'm trying to run the following WQL on a number of servers:

        SELECT * FROM CIM_DataFile where Drive='D:' and Extension='pst'

It works fine on about 90% of our servers, but fails on the rest with this error:

        Number: 0x800706be
        Facility: Win32
Description: The remote procedure call failed.

All our servers are either partitioned into two volumes or have two drives, and I only get the error on the second "data" drive; the script runs fine if I change it to "Drive='C:'".

The servers with the issue include Server 2003 / 2003 R2 / 2008 / 2008 R2, so the problem is not related to one specific OS.

The account running the query has "Full Control" on all folders on the drive.

The servers with the issue vary in drive sizes, so it's not just servers with large drives.

I've tried running a chkdsk on the drive with the issue.

I get exactly the same error when running a query against Win32_Directory:

        SELECT * FROM Win32_Directory where Drive='D:'

Again it works fine when changed to "Drive='C:'".

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

        Thanks
