The join opration was not successful.Tis could be because an exiting

We are using Moodle (eLearning Software) which maps certain fields from our AD. Everything works fine, except objectGUID.

I'm trying to retrieve objectGUID from AD. I know it will come back as octet string and I need to convert it. But what AD returns looks like:

When doing the automated GPO provisioning (invoke-ipamgpoprovisioning), I received an error  -  says " Server ____ does not exist or could not be contacted"   I ran this command in a remote powershell session from the DC.  When I run the command on the local IPAM server, it worked fine.  Ideas?

Validation Failure after network outage?

My internet connection was down this weekend, like it often is, and this time, when I looked at the my domain controller (Server 2008 R2 SP3), it had a black display background that included "you may be running a counterfeit version of Windows" and there was a popup indicating "automatic update service failed".

I clicked on the "X" app on the taskbar, and for lack of any other ideas, I selected "enter new validation key", at which time I re-entered the key I entered 45 days ago when I installed the OS.  It responded that it was now happy with my validation.

Can an outage and failure of an update check cause this loss of validation?  Should I expect it to happen again?

I have an Dell OEM version of the OS install disk - do these keys get turned off at MS by accident occasionally?

Any other explanations?

[SOLVED] Internet Explorer downloads can't save to redirected folder

Hello!  I've recently deployed a small network of a few Windows 7 clients and Server 2008.  The server was recently updated to SP1 and Windows 7 was also updated to SP1 on one of the client machines.  The client computers still haven't been placed on users desks.  I use Folder Redirection as I have in the past with Windows XP, and I've configured some, but not all folders, to be redirected.  Less important folders like Saved Games and Links aren't backed up.  I don't even know why the links folder exists, but that's not important right now.

The issue I noticed was that I opened Internet Explorer on the client computer, and noticed that if I tried to download a file, made sure that the Downloads folder in the user profile folder was the selected destination, and ensured that the Downloads folder was redirected to the server share for that user, if I hit Save, the window asking me where to download goes away, but I noticed it comes back up again, and I tell it a second time to save to the Downloads folder [that has been redirected], and it doesn't.  IE never downloads the file.  If I try downloading again, and choose a different location like the Desktop [which isn't redirected], the download works fine.

My initial reaction was oh, maybe the user for some odd reason doesn't have permissions to the Downloads folder that's redirected.  So I opened the User folder from within the test account, opened the Downloads folder, and created some new folders and files in there.  All of them worked with no problem.  I could even drag the downloaded file I had downloaded through IE 9 and saved on the Desktop over to the Downloads folder and that worked ok as well.

I don't remember testing file downloads before I upgraded that machine, but the computer is running IE9 now after recent updates, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please let me know if you need more information.

ROBOCOPY: ERROR 32 (0x00000020) Accessing Destination Directory. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am using ROBOCOPY to copy some files from on drive to another on the same computer. Every once in awhile, I get an error. And instead of retrying 999 times as it should, it retries once and fails. I have a couple questions:

1. Why would this error be happening in the first place?

2. Why isn't ROBOCOPY retrying the 999 times as defined?

Commands are below:

>> mkdir C:\Users\tempuser\AppData\Local\temp\test1

>> robocopy /R:999 /W:5 /NP /E /XO /NFL /NDL E:\test1 C:\Users\tempuser\AppData\Local\temp\test1 test*

ipconfig/all shows cluster Virtual IP's Configured under physical NIC adapters

Few days back i had activity to upgrade NIC drivers and Firmware on windows server 2008 Cluster nodes. Before start of activity, i have taken backup of configured IP's using ipconfig/all command for safer side. Post activity completed I have configured the same IP's as per backup I have taken before.

I tried to do the fail over testing of cluster resources but it was not successful and got the error of IP conflict which was very strange for me. I looked up again on IP configuration and found everything perfect as per backup. Finally I looked up in our internal application of IP database and found discrepancy in IP configuration with ipconifg/all backup that I have taken.  Fail over testing has been done successfully after configured the correct IP's.

I have found that while taking backup of ip configuration i have used ipconfig/all command which captures the cluster virtual IP's as well and its was showing configured in NIC adapter which is not actually anywhere available in Physical adapter.

I believe the cluster virtual IP's should not be shown as configured in NIC adapter.

Uncheck "Use a proxy server for you LAN" on client PC using group policy

Hi all,

I am looking for a means to centrally "un-check" the box next to "Use a proxy server for you LAN" under proxy server.

We have "checked" this box so as to input a proxy server IP address and port for each client PC but we need to allow them browse without proxy server.

If there is any means, please kindly revert.

Thanks in advance.

Weird server behavior --- server will not allow for rdp nor local login nor remote access of management console

I have 3 offices.  Each with a AD server.  Originally server fs was role holder for all fsmo roles.   It also had dns, and cert services.  DNS is via DFS as well as sysvol.    About 3 weeks ago, FS died suddenly and without the ability to restore.   I seized all of the roles forcefully from FS to server D.  Dheld the roles while I rebuilt FS  on a new hardware.  Named the same, added back to domain, added original roles back.

Have since added a third server, DC, and it holds all of the roles now.   Transferred off roles successfully and without errors.

Now have very strange errors on FS and D.  Have rebuilt WMI with wbem cmd.   Have reset ip using netsh command.

Here's what happens.  I can reboot either of D or FS.  When I do, everything works ok, with only some minor barks in the event logs.   At this point, standard communication tests will be successful.  RPC works, portquery is happy, I can log in remotely or locally, no problem.   After a short period of time, 4 minutes, 4 hours or 72 hours (never more than 72 hours), the servers, D and FS will go into a state where they cannot communicate with each other, rpc filure begin to occur and then I cannot log into either server - locally nor remote, AD communications fail.   Clients can still log into network shares and print.   DNS works for clients.

This never, not even once, has happened to the new server DC.

As soon as I reboot - have to hard reset the server each time, the issues go away for a little while.  I would normally say, firewall, or port blocked, etc.  I do not believe this to be the case here.   I would next feel like it may be a network stack issue.   Not sure about that, as it works, then stops...

I need some help troubleshooting this.   Any ideas?  I suspect that it may be related to AD, security, etc... or bad metadata in AD because of the forced move.

Or, and this is what I think may actually be at the root of the issues, is that DFS does not seem to work well in this environment and since we are using DFS for server to server AD updates, it may be some part of this which is broken, and affects DNS, and AD and then other services time out and become unhappy.

help......

Additional information, it seems like the backups stall at "scanning system files", so, the backups are also "timing out"   - I have removed, rebooted and reinstalled the server backup software.  Still not working.

On the FS server, I also get SPN errors, access denied when trying to create the WRM instance when restarting the server or service.

PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011 (on Physical Machines)

Hi,

Recently we have been facing issues when using our PXE service. We are gettingPXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011 when we try to pxe boot Physical machines. However, if we try the same with VM's, we can successfully deploy an OS using the PXE service. Our WDS server is not on the same server having the DHCP service. I'm really not sure what's causing the problem since we can make it wotk on vm's but not on physical machines. I don't know if it has something to do with our DHCP having 95% IP addresses being used.

Help is much appreciated.

I'm having issues trying to install updates on a couple Windows 2008 R2 servers. I keep getting either Error Code 8024402F or Error Code 80240038. I've been trying a bunch of things and can't seem to figure out the issue and I'm getting frustrated. Any suggestions? I've tried this with no luck http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproSP/thread/9e423ee2-f2fe-419a-b8bf-703da6187d5d and also the automatic troubleshooter located here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80072efd

I am hoping that someone else has located this SDK, because I cannot find it to save the life of me. I am in the process of upgrading a 2003 DRM server to a 2008 R2 DRM for security reasons, but to completely configure this server I need the SDK. The only problem is I have been browsing for it for some time with no avail. Could someone please point me in the right direction or know the specific URL of this download?

How to assign users a desktop background containing client and user information unique to each session

Hi all,

Not sure where this topic belongs so I'll just go here for the moment.

I'm a rather green systems administrator and the system I've just started administrating is a mess. The first thing I want setup is something I saw at a local university. The logon screen and the desktop background gave the user information about the machine they were using, such as IP/mac address and who they were logged in as. The purpose for this being if they had issues with a particular machine, they could call IT and quote the IP/mac address for easy assistance.

Any ideas on how to set this up? Would you use GP to set the desktop background then have some 3rd party software to automatically create an image with the users information?

Also I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2.

Thanks

Hi all.

I have a server running Server 2008, and one Windows 7 computer. I have set up the domain and more on the server, and now I want to a successful file sharing between these two computers. When I plug the LAN cable into the Win 7 PC, it connects to the network, but it doesnt show the server PC in the network places.

How can I set up file sharing, so that when I plug my LAN cable in, the files show in the network places?
