High CPU Utilization of Windows server 2012 standard edition (MS SQL 2016 Database is installed )

Hi Team,

From couple of weeks am facing high CPU utilization on Windows server 2012 R2 Standard edition, the server is hosted on Cloud platform (Host Base is Linux), We tried to fix the issue by increasing the memory, migrated server on another host, disable other services in msconfig. We already patched up with latest patches and Antivirus also removed the suspected 3rd party applications.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Patch tuesday 09-10-2019 windows update - KILLED our 2008R2 PDC ( will not boot!)

UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

This happened LAST MONTH.. ( see  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c3feaf46-f5e5-4e78-a1b8-888eada3d6d6/patch-tuesday-08132019-windows-update-killed-our-2008r2-pdc-will-not-boot?forum=winservergen )

eventually the "fix" was published:  "don't install this month's critical security patches - wait for NEXT MONTH".

OK, it's now next month, and I got five "important" patches for our 2008R2 domain controller.

All five applied "successfully". Then... 'TA-DAH!!!"  the machine WILL NOT REBOOT.. Ittries to reboot, but cannot find its HARD DISK.

Restored from backup ( now TWO MONTHS BEHIND on the patches...)

WHAT GIVES, GOOD PEOPLE OF MICROSOFT UPDATE??

Reconnect issue to partition mapped drive

After the latest update I am now getting a popup message from Network Connections that says

"An error occurred while reconnecting M: to \\mybookworld\Public\Customer Files

Microsoft Windows Network: The local device is already in use.

This connection has not been restored."

How do I stop this?

Windows Admin Center and WinRM Authentication

I recently found that once we disable Negotiate Authentication on WinRM Service on Domain COntrollers, the WinRM Clients cannot Authenticate with those Target Servers using WAC.
I am trying to find if anyone has seen this issue or behaviour.

Windows Admin Center(WinRM Client)
Windows 2012 or Windows 2016 Domain Controllers(WinRM Servers)

When I disable the Negotiate Authentication using Group Policy or using Winrm locally, WinRM Client fails to Authenticate when I test the connection from Windows Admin Center.
Also, the poweshell CMDLets i:e Enter-Pssession or Invoke will fail with the same error unless I specify the -Authentication Switch and force the usage of Kerberos

I tried disabling Negotiate Authentication on WinRM Client setting however that doesn't help. ALso trusted Host is updated for all Target Host.

Error message.

"Connecting to remove server Servername failed with the following error message: The WinRM client cannot process the request. Negotiate authentication is currently disabled in the client configuration. Change the client configuration, use one of the enabled authentication mechanisms still enabled. To use kerberos, specify the local computer name as the remote destination."

Question with the two scenarios:-
Winrm Client has Negotiate and Kerberos Enabled
WinRM Service has Negotiate Disabled and Kerberos Enabled
Why is the WinRM Client not failing over to Kerberos when Negotiate fails? Is fail over an expected behavior?

WinRM Client and WinRM Service has Negotiate Disabled
WinRM Client and WinRM Service has Kerberos Enabled
Why is the WinRM cilent not using Kerberos when I it is enabled on both the sides and still uses Negotiate Authentication.

hello ;

i have windows server 2008 R2 running as a primary domain controller , with other domain controller (2008 R2)

the PDC stop running and it display this famous error when we start the VM (it run as a virtual machine )

STOP: c00002e2 Directory Services could not start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Error Status: 0xc0000001.

what I found on googling is that the ntds database is corrupted and I need to repair it

the solution I found talk about  rebooting the VM and enter the DSRM with F8

then delete the log files under c:\windows\NTDS\ and reboot ( i did this but nothing happen)

or try to repair the ntds.dit database using the esentutle cmd line :

this what I get when I tried it :

C:\Windows\system32>ntdsutil.exe
ntdsutil.exe: activate instance ntds
Active instance set to "ntds".
ntdsutil.exe: files
Could not initialize the Jet engine:  Jet Error -528.
Failed to open DIT for AD DS/LDS instance NTDS. Error -2147418113
ntdsutil.exe:

it show that there is an issue with the database , so i tried to repair it using the esentutl.exe cmdl

Files/folders missing after failed move

$

Hi everyone, I am in need of serious help. Majorly screwed up at work today. I was trying to save a file on my desktop and while doing so (at the 'save as' window), I accidentally dragged one shared folder A (the one that I mainly use for work) into another shared folder B. Of course, my natural reaction was to drag A out of B out which I did. However, halfway through the move (which took a while - strange because when I accidentally moved it the first time, it was instant but I was in the 'save as' window), there was a prompt saying something like 'file xxxxx is in use so it cannot be moved' or something along that line so I clicked something to close it - I cannot remember if there's only 1 button (Ok) or if there were 2 (Ok, Cancel). Anyway, at first I thought the whole move was cancelled because A was still in B but to my horror, I found many files and folders missing in A. May I know if the missing files and folders can be retrieved? If yes, can someone tell me how I can go about doing it? Or am I screwed? If anybody could help with something, I would be so grateful. I just started this job last month so I am feeling very bad now about losing all these files and folders. Thank you in advance!

Need a clean way to distinctly identify between RDP and TS sessions

We are using Win32 APIs ProcessIdToSessionId and GetSystemMetrics (SM_REMOTESESSION) to identify whether the session is remote or local.

But we currently don’t have a clean way to identify in remote sessions whether they are created from TS clients or for RDP connection to a local station.

Could you provide some technique prompt?

Thanks a lot!

PDC auto sync time from external NTP

hello, in my environment:

all the domain joined computer will sync time from DC, that's fine!

all the DC (except PDC ) will sync time from PDC, that's fine too!

but I wanna PDC can auto sync time from external NTP , such as time.windows.com

I tried below command on PDC, but it seems like "one time sync" only.

W32tm /config /manualpeerlist:time.windows.com,0x1 /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
net start w32time & W32tm /resync /rediscover

after the command ran, the time is correct, but if I modify time on PDC, the time seems not able to auto correct from external NTP.

Hi,

When I'm trying to start a sql service account I keep getting logon failures. I dont have gpo for any logon service account setup. What could be causing this issue

In the event logs i see this message.

The Platform_Cache service was unable to log on as domian\account1 with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Service: Platform_Cache
Domain and account: domian\account1

This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."

User Action

Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.

If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated with this node might be removing the right.

Search Indexing is taking long long time without success

Hello experts,

Issue: Indexing option is not getting complete, when trying to indexed files placed inside shared folder on windows server 2012R2.

-> Number of files in shared folder 3 million.

-> Size of shared folder 2.3TB, mapped on Domain controller and shared with all other users, which users access and try to search file in that shared folder.

-> When I'm trying to build the index for files placed in shared folder, it get hung after 1.8 millions files indexed and indexing never get complete for entire files in that shared folder.

-> Performed SFC /Scannow (100% success with no error)

Is there a limit to the number/size of files that can be indexed ? Is there a way what I can try to get success here !

Thanks,

Hello All,

I have a site where i have 150 users , when user login it's not pointing to Local domain controller instead pointing to some other domain controller in Azure.

Please let me know what needs to checked.

checks Performed :

1. DNS record exists

2. Preferred DNS pointed to Local DC on all users machines.

3. Sites and services have the correct Domain Controller in AD Sites & Services.

4.No Time Sync issues noticed.

Previous it was pointing to Local DC, now it's pointing to Azure DC.

Kindly let me know what needs to be checked.
