We would like to check with you that recently some of our staff got issue with shared folder access after they change their password. Our NAS is connected to the NT Domain and in our AD we have setup groupname which allows user to connect to shared folder inside NAS using the logon script. But after they connected to their computer whenever they tried to access the shared folder it goes to the Windows Security which asked them for username and password. We have already restarted the AD and even the NAS. We have also reset the password in AD but still having the same issue. Please give us some advise. Thank you.

Hi All,
I am trying to count user CALs required and here is my situation.
There are 2 domains in the organization, let us say 192.168.100.x and 192.168.200.x, with their domain controllers on Windows Servers.
In 192.168.200.x there are 3 PCs with IPs 192.168.200.15, 192.168.200.16, 192.168.200.17.
.15 and .16 are not registered in the AD, .17 is registered
Users are logging into their machines using local admin level accounts on .15, .16 and .17, then they use one for all users teamuser2 domain account (for 192.168.200.x) to map drives or use resources in 192.168.200.x and one for all users teamuser1 domain account (for 192.168.100.x) to map drives or use resources in 192.168.100.x.
The physical users are user1, user2 and user3. The users are registered in 192.168.100.x's Active Directory and not registered in 192.168.200.x.
My questions:
How many Windows Server user CALs do I need?
I think I need 6 CALs - 2 for each physical user to access both domains. Please, help to solve the puzzle.

Server 2016 Tech Preview 3 and Windows Imaging Component (WIC) Support
Hello,
I'm testing our program on Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 3.
In our program we use the Windows Imaging Component (WIC) framework to manipulate some image types, namely HDP, WDP and JXR.
Trying to open these images using WIC on the preview gives me the error message: (Could not initialize component.). Is this because of the technical preview or had WIC support been dropped from Windows Server 2016?

Removing failover cluster internal network Windows 2008 R2

I understand Windows Server 2008 R2 supports creating a failover cluster with just one network between nodes, as opposed to Windows Server 2003.
There's a 2 nodes Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster which was created with 2 networks (private / public). I'm attempting to remove the private network (shown in console as "Internal"). First I attempt to change "Allow cluster network communications on this network" to "Do not allow cluster communication on this network", but I'm getting error:
"The operation has failed.
The cluster network is the only one configured for internal cluster communication between two or more active cluster nodes. The internal communication capability cannot be removed from the network.
Error code 0x800713ca"
Could you please advice on whether it's feasible to remove a failover cluster internal network and have it work with just one adapter? That other adapter is actually a team of 2, so there is redundancy.

Active Directory Administrative Center must close due to an unknown error
I have a 2008 r2 box and I found out about this tool and wanted to try it out. But it has never successfully launched for me. i always get Active Directory Administrative Center must close due to an unknown error on startup of the tool. I cannot seem to find any logs for this but they must exist some where. I have tried to run as admin also that did not fix anything.
Any ideas how to fix this issue?

How to count how may objects in AD? How many users, computers and DNS records?
A customer told me that he have a 70GB AD database and he suspects that most of the amount of data belongs do DNS data, due to millions of DDNS records.
How can we count the number of user, computers, groups and DNS records and maybe estimate the average size of the objects, to make sure that the 70GB really belongs to DDNS records and not to lingering, phantom objetcs, etc

"Ghost" Account Attempting Sign In Every Second
According to my monitoring system, there is a local account on my Windows Server 2012 R2 box which attempts to sign in every second. The account is called "0" [without the quotes] and sometimes an account called <SERVERNAME>$ [without

SYSVOL replication not working to 1 DC. AD replication working fine. NTFRS used for replication

We have the stage here where all of a sudden the sysvol data is not replicating to a DC across a VPN link. AD data is working fine.
I have checked
1. DNS communication.
2 repadmin /showrepl does not show any problems.
The ntfrs log on the source DC shows these sort of failures to the target Server.

Hi,
Two of our servers are constantly showing the following two errors at least twice a day:

Message: No RAID Controllers found.
Event ID: 1
AND
Log Name: Application

Event ID: 1
Message: OnLoad(): Cann't find any HBA or Networking Controller.
Both servers are HP ProLiant DL380 G5 running Windows Server 2008 Standard.
I wasn’t able to find much information about this error. So any information or ideas on what could be causing this would be great.

I am stuck in Microsoft licensing part as we have buy Windows server 2012 R2 Standard edition for one license. I want to know can we deploy this OS on Physical server and on Hyper v VM by using same product key?
I read about Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition allows two VM authorization.

BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008 R2
I have tried putting the dvd in and then running the recovery console via the command prompt. I only have the options for "system Image Recovery", "Windows Memory Diagnostic" and Command Prompt.
I ran Bootrec /RebuildBcd, Bootrec /FixMbr and Bootrec /FixBoot
None of it works and I still get the error. How do I fix this (I have no windows restore point)?
and How do I get it to automatically create restore points?
It is a Virtual machine and the only snapshot is with windows is open, but when restarted it still has the issue. Is there a way to solve the issue from inside windows itself?

I have a problem with patch MS15-96. When this patch has been installed on a domain controller the following code doesn’t work anymore. Instead of creating a correct computer object it creates a computer object with these faulty properties( It is still possible to create correct computer objects with ADUC).
Faulty properties:
primaryGroupID = 513 (Group_Rid_Users)
sAMAccountType = 805306368 (Normal_User_account)
The properties should be:
primaryGroupID = 515 (Group_Rid_Computers)

mail merge error - Path not found
I am using server 2008 r2, with a windows 7 ultimate pc x 2 .
Any new user, or new profile everything else I can make work. 1 main issue is under the original profile I made userX, I can utilize my software, which uses MS Word Mail Merge to use its software database (SQL) to create a Word document from the individual record.
My problem is under USER/Main- no problem (originally everything was stored/created here), the problem is when I create a new user/employee - I can create user profile/copy if I have to from mine, but none of the newly created profiles allow me to utilize the mail merge MS Word document to be created. It gives - Error. Path not found.
But it appears, that I have the correct path, and showing and initially mapped in the software.

Domain Trust between 2003 and 2012R2 AD
Hi,
We have a domain controller 2003 in "DomainA" and we created a fresh domain "DomainB" with 2012R2. Our intention is to migrate all resources from "DomainA" to "DomainB". The problem is that even if we export/import user accounts and other resources to the new domain, we still have to change hundred PCs to the new domain in a short time. Is it possible to create an external domain trust (different forests) between 2013 and 2012R2 AD? We don't want to migrate domain because of probable errors on the 2003 domain. Can be the trust a good way to migrate the domain in this scenario?

Help! Windows Activation error message saying "Windows must be reinstalled" - has come up on our primary data server
Would appreciate any help I can get on the following error that just popped up this week on our company main Windows 2008 R2 Data server:
Windows Activation - Windows must be reinstalled - An unauthorized change was made to windows. Windows must be reinstalled to activate. Insert the Windows installation DVD or CD into you computer to
begin reinstallation process.
This server was a valid copy of Windows 2008 R2 and was activitated and has been running fine since June 2011. I really have no idea why this is coming up OR what to do to repair it. Because this is our main data server, I'm nervous
about trying to reinstall windows on this machine.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be or what to look for so I can repair this?

Location column in ADUC query for Printers
I have created a simple query for all printers using the Query built into ADUC. 2008 R2 native domain and forest. once i run the query, i can see all the printers and if i right click a printers property, i can see the printers location in the location
field. If i select view add/remove columns in ADUC so i can view them all however, i don't have location as an option to add. Can you please provide the solution (not a link on how to add extra columns). it would be greatly appreciated and Admins all over
