VAMT vs. Office 2016 / Windows 10?

$

I have the VAMT that is included in Windows 10 ADK. It can see my Office 2016 and Windows 10 KMS keys under AD Activation section but I can't add them under product keys as it says they are invalid product keys. Works fine with my Office 2013 and Server 2012 R2 / 8.1 KMS keys though. Is there a newer version of VAMT than 3.1 / 10.0.10240.0?

Synchronizing time with external source on 2088 r2

My domain controller isn't synchronized to a valid time source.   In an attempt to follow some instructions I get the following error

C:\>w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist: "0.ntp.pool.org, 1.ntp.pool.org, 2.ntp.pool.org"

The following arguments were unexpected:
 0.ntp.pool.org, 1.ntp.pool.org, 2.ntp.pool.org

C:\>

_Instructions I was following___________
  1. First, locate your PDC
  2.  Server. Open the command prompt and type: C:\>netdom /query fsmo
  3. Log in to your PDC Server and open the command prompt.
  4. Stop the W32Time service: C:\>net stop w32time
  5. Configure the external time sources, type: C:\> w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist: “0.ntp.pool.org, 1.ntp.pool.org, 2.ntp.pool.org”
  6. Make your PDC a reliable time source for the clients. Type: C:\>w32tm /config /reliable:yes
  7. Start the w32time service: C:\>net start w32time
  8. The windows time service should begin synchronizing the time. You can check the external NTP servers in the time configuration by typing: C:\>w32tm /query /configuration
  9. Check the Event Viewer for any errors.

Generating Certificate Request with 'Description' Field

$

I have been tasked with automating the certificate request and renewal process between two groups at my company and have had a request to incorporate the "description" field into the certificate. This field is available when using MMC - Certificates to request a new cert; however, the field does not show up in the CA cert and parsing through the raw cert data field by field does not show the field either. The requests are being made from 2008R2 servers and 2012 servers using certreq.exe and anini file; it seems that all other fields are available by OID at the very least, except this one. Has anyone generated certificate requests using thisfield in a programmatic way? Is the field something that windows is hiding in the background somewhere but it isn't truly a certificate attribute?

Thank you very much,

Patrick

User GPO not applied upon autologon - event 7017

I'm trying to deploy Windows 10 Enterprise using WDS 2012.

After windows setup has finished the computer restarts, domain user xy is automatically logged on and a group policy is supposed to be applied.

This has been working with windows up to 8.1.

With windows 10 the domain user xy is automatically logged on but its user GPO fails to be applied.

7017

Error end-trace event: The system call described in the event failed to complete.

On such a client gpresult /r would say:

INFO: Der Benutzer hat keine RSoP-Daten (no RSoP Data)

Commandline execution of gpupdate would immediately work without any issues.

It seems the User GPO can only not be loaded afer Autologon.

KMS Server with VAMT 3.0 and 38 keys but no results?

Hi,

I'm looking answers for a long time about KMS Service but unfortunately I'm still searching..

The problem is our KMS Server working on Server 2012R2 x64..

I'd like to license our Win7-Win8.x and Win10 clients and also Office 2007-2010 and 2013/2016 clients..

The cscript slmgr.vbs /dli as follows, but in VAMT 3.0, even I added 38 product keys, it is always show counters as 0..

I set KMS Server to my IP:1688 for preferences under VAMT settings but nothing changed..

How can I start VAMT to include correct values on KMS?

Best Regards,

Hi:

A problem with VSS in Windows 10.  Occurs both in Windows 10 backup and when trying to use Reflect backup program

The following is error reported by Reflect:

I've been through and tried many suggestions, but none work.

SYSVOL Folder - Does it need to be manually copied to a new DC?

Currently have a 2K3 DC, will be deploying a new 2K8 DC on new Hardware to replace the 2K3 DC, transferring roles and services
from 2K3 to the 2K8 DC.

My question is, will we need to copy the sysvol folder to the new DC (2K8) or is it automatically
created through replication from other existing DC's? (we have multiple)

I have created a simple query for all printers using the Query built into ADUC. 2008 R2 native domain and forest. once i run the query, i can see all the printers and if i right click a printers property, i can see the printers location in the location field. If i select view add/remove columns in ADUC so i can view them all however, i don't have location as an option to add. Can you please provide the solution (not a link on how to add extra columns). it would be greatly appreciated and Admins all over the world will praise you for sharing the secret hidden answer. :)

Clients unable to connect to new KMS

I just set up a new 2012 R2 server with KMS Host key for Windows 10 and Office 2010.  It is added to DNS and the port 1688 is configured on the server.

There was an existing KMS Server for Windows 7 and Office 2010 and I have updated the KMS host record in DNS to point to the new KMS server.

When I try to manually activate a Windows 10 client I get this error:

C:\windows\system32>cscript slmgr.vbs /ato

Error: 0xC004F074 The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.

I verified that the client knew which KMS server to contact with this command and the new server is correctly showing up

C:\windows\system32>nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._tcp
Server:  kmsserver.domain.com
Address:  192.168.0.XX

          port           = 1688
          svr hostname   = kmsserver.domain.com
kmsserver.domain.com       internet address = 192.168.0.XX

The client can resolve and ping the server.

I also went to the KMS server itself and verified that port 1688 is open in the firewall.

I also ran the slmgr /dlv command and it shows no contact"

I know that there is a 25 client threshold before it start activating, but shouldn't the server also be showing attempted activation?

Since the server is configured in DNS and the firewall port is open on the server and the clients can resolve the KMS server name and it still isn't working, what else could be causing this issue?

Exchange 2010, .local domain and a wildcard certificate

$

I have just started with a new company and one of the first jobs to come across my desk is to replace the certificate on the exchange server that expires at the end of the month. I tried to renew the current cert with godaddy but it hasmydomain.local as a 'subject alternate name' so it cannot be renewed. We have a wildcard certificate here so I have used it but then internal clients get a certificate error as they are resolving to theservername.mydomain.local which does not match our external name on the certificate. Is there an easy way to fix this? I have read some stuff about split DNS and changing some virtual directories via powershell to make this work but I just want to make sure that nothing is going to stop working during this process as the server is live with over 2500 users.

Here is the article I was looking at. It refers to exchange 2013 so are there any different commands for my exchange 2010 environment? http://exchangeserverpro.com/avoiding-exchange-2013-server-names-ssl-certificates/
