Events 1014 and 1054 cause Windows Server 2012 R2 to be dropped from the network

Brand new VM with Windows Server 2012 R2 will randomly get event 1014

Name resolution for the name MILL-MILW-DC01.milliman.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Once this occurs we can no longer RDP to it, map drives, or view IIS websites.  I then need to log into the VMware console and reboot it.  Sometimes this will be followed by event 1054

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not obtain the name of a domain controller. This could be caused by a name resolution failure. Verify your Domain Name System (DNS) is configured and working correctly.

This will occur about every 5-15 days and has been happening for 2 months.  Please help.

Setup one forest with two domains?

Hi,

At this moment we have one domain and forest called xyz.local. In our everioment we have a HQ and 50 shops registered with this one domain. I was thinking about spliting this into two domains in one forest. The forest would be a new name called zyx.local and two sub domain called hq.zyx.local and shops.zyx.local. But can I transfer the users and computers from to old domain forest to the new one? And also wat would be the profit of splitting this up?

Thanks in advance

Servers slowing to a crawl unless updates are applied very regularly

I have been migrating some Hyper-V hosts from 2008 to 2012 R2. I have run into the same problem on all of the machines converted so far.

Unless Windows Updates are applied to the machine regularly (like every 2 weeks). The server (Hyper-V host) slows to a crawl. All VMs and services slow down. The fix is always to run windows update. Once updated service speed returns to normal.

I thought that setting windows update to never check for updates would fix the problem but that did not help either.

What would cause these serves to slow down waiting on a Windows Update?

I have a web application in a dmz residing on a server server1.us.domain.com. Server IP is 1.10.10.1 and application name is appname.

My internal network has a windows DNS server (AD) domain is rm.domain.com and server is server1.rm.domain.com (different subnet)

Users on my rm.domain.com have access to the webapplication using an URL: 1.10.10.1/appname/logon.aspx

How can I configure my dns to use appname to acces the application instead the URL: 1.10.10.1/appname/logon.aspx

Thank you for any help. Rene

Running Window Server 2008 R2. When I try to start the service I get this error here.

I don't have a AD Environment this just a Workgroup environment.

I have tried following the Link here. It does nothing. Tried updating network cards drive. Netsh commands they suggest nothing works.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/87f288b5-7d75-47a6-87ff-badf1f0b4cb7

I have also tried the suggested registry trick of Disable Rouge Check no avail I cannot get the service to start.

I have used this utility and only show Netopia router which is one I currently have setup.

I have about 10 Win2008 SP2 Citrix Servers that show the above event logged in the System log prior to the servers becoming unusable and a hard boot is required.. The error relates to the Thumbnail Cache Out of Proc Server COMbut I can't find out why it is happening and how I can resolve it. I have approx 10 users on each Citrix Server and their screen just locks up and can't do anything.. even logoff..!

I would appreciate some help in resolving this one ASAP

Problem after migrating DC server 2003 transfer to Server 2008R2

Hello,

After a routine Microsoft Update my secondary DC2 server 2003 froze. The DC1 server 2003 was not working well a the beginning so after DC2 froze the overall Domain name resolution was failing.

I made the decision to replicate DC1 with another DC and AD Virtual Machine (DC3). I updated the DHCP with the DC3 IP and the servers that had static IP as well.

Now, one of my 2003 standard server with purpose is to serve as a Network shared folders holder keeps on loosing connectivity to the network. SO the shared folders are not accessible in the network. To temporarly fix this i have to use the windows repair tool to fix the connection which force the computer registration to the DC. This works for a few moments then after a random time fall back down.

Would you guys have some suggestion to fix this permamently, a part from unjoin the machine form domain and join it back?

Hi there.

Server 2008 R2 - domain controller

Server 2012 r2 - domain controller

If we run on Server 2008 r2 command: repadmin /showrepl it shows everything sucessfully.

If we run on same server repadmin /syncall we recieve a RPC error regarding server 2012 r2.

Where and how to find the root of the problem?

with best regards

How does everyone else benchmark their Windows Servers?

Hello All, what is the best way to benchmark a baseline Windows Server performance? I'm thinking of creating a new production server, but as soon as I create one I want to benchmark the baseline performance. I know there are several tools available at the moment - what is the best and most efficient in terms of not overwhelming me with information, tool to use?

Thanks.
