Ghost IP on LAN adapter

Hi,

forsometime, aghost IP address isestablished on the main LAN adapter (Windows 2008 R2 Server) .

The Server have only two LAN Adapter. The first is active and have a IP V4 address, the other one ist deactived (with no IP address). The first IP adress is 10.110.43.1 (Server) - the Ghost IP is a private IP in the rage of 169.254.*.*

This address is not added to the LAN IP addresses - this IP address is changing every Server Startup.

Look like this:

WehaveuninstalledallLANadapters. Cleanup all hiden LAN Adapter in the device Manager.

If no adapater is installed no Gohst IP is established.

Butas soon asthefirstLANadapterisinstalled, this GhostIPexists right awayagain.

This Ghost IP is a big problem for same services who use IP adress. Some of it found the server via the Ghost address and then it crashed.

What can we do? Please help us. Thanks!

Subnet and IP Addressing

Server set for DHCP. Current scope range is 10.0.5.1 using 255.255.255.0.

We need more addresses. So I know about changing subnet to 255.255.254.0 which will give me 10.0.5.1 - 10.0.6.254.

How do I set up the scope? When I set up the range of 10.0.5.1 - 10.0.6.254 I get a message about having to set a superscope. So I allow superscope.

My gateway is 10.0.5.1. If I take a workstation and manually set ip address of 10.0.6.22 with subnet 255.255.254.0 and default gateway of 10.0.5.1, I get a message "Warning - The default gateway is not on the same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and subnet mask."

I'm confused as to the gateway settings with this scope. Any help?

The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server mpc334$. The target name used was RPCSS/MPC431. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (BRANDENBURG.INFO) is different from the client domain (COMPANY.INFO), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

slow upload speed by 50% on my server 2012 R2

I have installed test server 2012 r2 on my Dell t5500 machine (ssd disk, 44ram, 6 core xeon cpu, two giga NICs)

my internet speed is 100/100mbps, I am able to download at even 13mbps but my upload is 5mbps as it shows by speedtest sites and I ran a test over ftp.   My internet is stable, as i get full speed 100&100 on my laptop even it is on wireless.

What i did:

1) updated the driver for both NICs ( no luck)

2) disabled firewall, large send Offload, antivirus and some other options in the network properties without any luck

Is there a bug in the server 2012 r2 for upload speed or I cant figured it out on how to fix it?

Anyone else having this issue? I would appreciate your help guys.

thanks

Access Denied Error For Shared Folder with Win Server 2008R2 Task Manager Scheduled Task

Hi,

I have scheduled a Task with the Task scheduler. It invokes an .EXE file after every 5 min.

The application is supposed to access some files lying on a different Server's shared path, process them and move them across folders on the Shared path only.

Problem: When the .EXE gets executed from the Task scheduler, I am getting "Access Denied to the Shared path" error. I have already given Full Control to Everyone as well as to the Account with which the Task has been configured with.

Another important point to note is, if I run the .EXE manually, the solution is able is able to do everything intended; I don't get any Access Denied error.

Kindly help me with what needs to be done in order that this issue is resolved. This is really urgent for me.

Thanks a lot in advance..

Best Technet "How To" guide for my ADFS setup?

Hi All,

I am currently needing to set-up an ADFS server but I am unclear which technet guide I should be following. I have previously gone through setting this up with Office 365 so understand the ideas and processes somewhat but in this case it is very different.

From my reading I am the relaying partner now. Basically we host a web app that my client wants SSO into from their AD. They have a ADFS system in place as they use it for other systems to get SSO but we a re building from scratch.

Any links to the best place to get a guide to this would be AMAZING!

Thanks

Server 2008 SBS "No Operating System Found" Migration to New Hardware

$

Hello!

I have a question.  We recently tried to migrate one of our customers from an HP 2008 Small Business Server SBS to another HP server (A new hardware migration) and we recieved a "No operating system found" right after the reboot of the system. Here is the steps, as it happened.

  1. Did all of the prep work on the source server (including creating an answer file)
  2. Created a 1 + 0 hardware raid on the destination server
  3. Connected the two servers on the same network subnet
  4. Inserted the 2008 SBS DVD in to the Destination server drive
  5. Plugged in the USB flash drive with the answer file on it
  6. Booted to the DVD, ran the install
  7. During the install, we converted our 600 GB of free space into primary partition: 120 GB, secondary partions: 120 GB, 300 GB
  8. Then the server rebooted as part of the install, and when the server came up, it said "no operating system found"

Typically, I would think this problem is caused by a MBR or a hard drive failure issue, but I don't think that is the case in this situation.

Any advice/help?

Event Log Displays N/A for User?

Is there any way to display the actual user name for User in the Windows Server 2008 event logs?  Specifically, I need to have the user name displayed in the Security event log for users that log on to the server.  Currently, I can only see the user name by drilling down into the General or Details section of the Event log.  The summary listing of events in the Event Log always shows the User as N/A.

I have looked at custom views but I can not find any way to get the user name to display for User.

Servers where patches will not install automatically or manually, Live updates are broken and when checking installed updates shows "NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER" SFC \SCANNOW will not run

Hello, (Bit of a long one but please read)

We have 3 servers in same physical location and server OU etc that are exhibiting the exact same behaviors (we have server servers in this location that are not), as above theyt are all W2008 R2 SP1 and all built from the same standard image we use on hundreds of other computers, they have also been in production for different amounts of time and we started to see this behavior at different times with them: (Its odd they are all in the same site where there are also several other servers that are not effected, there must be a link ? )

These servers are all missing several patches when checking our internal tool that reports from IBM endpoint management that we use to deliver patches (they are not all missing the exact same patches some ore or less than other), although SCCM (we used SCCM to deliver patches until around 6 months ago) and IBM EM are both running (some ptches hark back to the SCCM Delievry days) they are not patching and when attempting to patch manually by downloading the exact patch coresponding to the fixlet ID and the KB , the stanbdalone installer starts and after some time you receive an error message “The update is not applicable to yoru computer”. Windows update returns error 80070006 for all of the servers.

it is worth noting that other applications and products also using the .MSU extension will insatll so it is not a problem with the installer service.

The above led me to think a corrupt patch may have stopped the sequence of patching so I then looked in “Programs and Features” => “Installed updates” and this is blank for all of them returening the message:

“NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER”.  (this I believe is a part of the fundamental issues and resolving this may resolve the patching)

Another issue is that if you run  “SFC /SCANNOW” It starts the scan and then returns: “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation” (Also in safe mode and both from an elevated CMD and WMI is started as a service)

The all three are probably related so I think fixing the “SFC and NO UPDATES SHOWN” issues will resolve the first.

The things I have tried so far are:

Running : wmic qfe list full /format:htable > c:\updates.htm             Should produce a list of updates but instead returns :  No Instance(s) Available (this is not hopeful)

Fix: Ran the “SYSTEM UPDATE REDINESS TOOL” from  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Result : Update Ran successfully but NO CHANGE

Fix: Ran the automated and manual fix “RESET WINDOWS UPDATE COMPONENTS” here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en then undated windows update agent.

Result : All ran successfully and NO CHANGE

Fix: Ran MBSA

Result : Runs successfully and then stays at “Done downloading security update information” (Log gives no obvious information)

Fix: Renamed the software distribution folder/restarted services (Various variations of this fix online, tried a few)

Result: Runs as described in article with new Software distribution folder being created,NO CHANGE

Fix: Create/Correct the  reg key for windows trusted installer located here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version (several articles relating to this and the above issues)

Result: the existing key was correct as should be from internal system information gathered , required in article.

Fix: Ran the“Windows update trouble-shooter” as here : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7

Result:  It detected and fixed error’s but still no change.

The WMI Repository checks out on them all for both of the methods I know to verify “Get-wmiobject –list |measure” and ensure count is over 900 and also “C:\>winmgmt /verifyrepository” and the repository came back as “WMI Repository is consistent”. I guess this is not hard evidence the WMI is OK, but these are the only methods I know.

I have also tried removing the server from its OU , running a GP Update and then rebooting and testing but to no avail (Bit of a longshot but tried to link the distinction between the three servers and the OU GP is one of them)

I have tried a few other articles registering .Dll’s etc , but I did not take a note of links as I was at the start of this and didn’t expect it to go so long so please reply with anything you see not above im happy to try again.

I have thought about removing SP1 and reinstalling it but this will require a major downtime and only possible if the backup files of SP1 have not been removed.

Any help is apreciated !

I moved the redirected home folders to a different location i.e. fileserver using the built in function of "move redirected folders to a new location" within the GPO.

When the user logs in, any link they click on for example "Windows-Explorer" we are presented with the following:

"It can not be verified, the person who created the file. Do you really want to open this file"

With options to open or cancel.

I have searched hi and low for a solution but can't find anything.

Command line tools to completely change region/input language for default user and welcome screen

$

Hi All,

This question has been asked a few times here, but I'm looking for an answer that will work in my situation (if one exists!)

My company is about to deploy Windows Server 2012 R2, and I'm writing the build scripts to automate a load of tasks after sysprep has finished doing its job. As we're a global company, which has adopted a follow-the-sun support model, we need to maintain global standards on the Windows Server image and post-deployment configuration. Meaning a SINGLE image for ALL regions.

Among these tasks is joining the domain, and detecting which region the server has been deployed to and configuring the default regional, language and input settings to that region. The image itself is configured for en-US, which is fine if we're deploying a server in the US. However, I need to completely change the region, input and display language etc. to en-GB and en-AU respectively when deploying servers in those regions (I'm from the UK).

Now I've figured out how to do this for the current user using powershell:

Set-Culture en-GB
Set-WinSystemLocale en-GB
Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId 242
Set-WinUserLanguageList en-GB

However, I need to copy these setting to both the welcome screen (most important for password entry), and the default user account. Typically you'd do this in the GUI here:

However, as I'm trying to automate the entire process, I want to avoid any GUI work by the engineer who's deploying the server. I want to automate this process.

The only way that I've found MIGHT work is exporting the current user registry settings for the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\MuiCached
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload

I then make changes to the keys to either en-GB or en-AU regions (using correct ID's where applicable), change the HKEY to HKU\.DEFAULT and import the reg file with the script.

This is all very messy and actually doesn't work fully. I've ended up with everything looking like it's in the UK region EXCEPT the display language. So the input language actually states it's in UK but in reality its still US. Additionally new users are getting US keyboard and display languages. Everything else is OK though.

So my question is centered around the whole copy process to both welcome screens and default accounts. Is it possible to cleanly script this in either powershell, cmd, or regedit?

Thanks for reading the long post!

Hello guys.

i'm trying to configure my Virtual Lab in VMware environment. So far the Lab consist of a single DC and a Client. What brought me here is the Error 1046 in DHCP Configuration which I think might be the reason for Server's failure to ping for its Client.

User unable to see files in a shared folder (Not permissions related)

Hi,

We've got a user that is unable to see any files in a group of shared folders.

The folders have PDF's saved into them throughout the day by a piece of software used by multiple users.

Each day has its own folder (2014-09-15 will have all files from that day in it etc).

She is able to see the contents of the folders up to last Friday (2014-09-12), however she cannot see the files within the folders created this week.

As a test, I created a folder within one of the folders and she could see that.

Everyone else can see the files except for this one user.

She can open the folder but the files just aren't there, and when checking the properties on her PC, it says that the folder is empty (where in reality it has 180 PDF's in it).

She has all of the correct permissions.

No changes have been made to her PC since Friday.

Can you offer any help?

Licenses Required for VNC access

$

Hi all,

I do apologize for having potentially posted this into the wrong forum to start with! I'm trying to wrap my head around the following question:

I have a tool I want to give users view access to. It's a piece of software interfacing with a telephone system that shows stats on who is currently logged on as a live dashboard. The software doesn't allow multiple people to access.

What I would therefore like to do is to give a handful of users view only access through VNC. Meaning I would run that software on a server, and then x users would all connect to the same server desktop as view-only clients.

I know what to do on the VNC side - which is buy x number of enterprise licenses that would allow x number of clients to connect in.

But how do I stand on Windows licenses? Assuming I install this app on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2012, am I right in thinking I would also need to buy x user cals? Or does it somehow make a difference that all clients are connecting to the same desktop in view-only mode?

Many thanks for any input.

Martin
