Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.

I noticed the following errors when this occurs:

All of our servers are running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise where we use Citrix to deliver desktop sessions to our users, but some are virtual and some are physical. This seemingly impacts our virtual machines more, and our VMs are hosted through VMWare, however, about 5 months ago a similar error fired on a non-virtual machine:

I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes the Group Policy Client service to stop?

I have found many articles that address this issue, but I keep getting stuck.

I am not sure how to get into WinRE with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard on a physical machine with a RAID configuration.

I tried to use Windows Backup to ensure recovery, but I get error :The backup operation that started at '‎2014‎-‎08‎-‎22T19:24:24.016209800Z' has failed with following error code '2155348010' (One of the backup files could not be created.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.

I tried to make the boot partition active and I get the error: The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk.  The ACTIVE command can only be used in fixed MBR disks.

Is there a way to rebuild the BCD inside of Windows or safemode?

Certificate Authority for non domain joined Linux servers

We have some Linux servers (non domain joined) that will be hosting a video conferencing application.  The vendor is asking for some self signed certificates for server and client authentication purposes.  We do have a Enterprise CA but am wondering if we should use that from a security standpoint or create a non-domain joined standalone CA for this purpose?

Server 2008 R2 Group Policy Problems

Hi,

Have a single Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller and Win 7 Enterprise clients.

Also have Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager with the Endpoint clients on Server ands Win 7 computers.

Just upgraded to latest version of SEPM and followed all the Symantec KB articles.

Real problem is client PC,s cannot get Group Policy now.

They can see the Server in Explorer but mapped drives don't connect.

The Network at logon is a new network, public with internet access every time BUT, if I disable and re-enable the NIC, it joins the Domain network and works fine.

Tried everything I can think of including GP logon timing setting in case logon is racing before GP is enacted.

Can't get it to work, any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Support,

I have downloaded IIS AAR 3.0 and install it on Windows 2008 server.

After that, I proceed to create server farm and added few CAS servers.

Then I go to URL rewrite and under Action->Action Type on the dropdown box,  I can't seem to find "Route to server farm" option.

Can anyone help? Thanks

The problem that I have is that Windows 8 laptops connect without a problem, but Win 7 laptops cannot connect. I have double checked all settings and compared the Win7 wireless connection settings to the Win8. Please can anyone assist. Thanks

How do i restore a windows backup VHD?

I made a backup of a virtual machine running on Hyper-V. It's Windows Server 2008. The backup is a VHD. How do I do a full system restore on this?

I've tried booting to a windows installation disc and doing a restore from a share, but that's resulting in an error message: "The selected system image cannot be restored in this recovery environment"

Any ideas?

Hello everybody,

at a customer's site, there are 36 virtual 2008 R2 terminal servers virtualized under VMware. All servers have the same following fixes installed (verified), but several times a week, LSM.EXE uses 100% or near 100% CPU:

Hello,

I'm having issues installing updates among other issues that seem to be related.

I'm not able to view a list of Installed Updates. Also Server Manager fails when it tries to list the Roles and Features on the server.

I get this error message in server manager

I get this error when I try and do a manual install of MSXML 4.0 SP2

When I try and run sfc /scannow:

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

I've tried the following:

.NET repair tool

The Readiness tool - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us

Resetting Windows Update Components - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us

ChkDSK

The automatic troubleshooter "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab" - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/windows-update-error-80070002#1TC=windows-7

Server 2008. How do I create a task to turn the server on at a specific time?

I'm running Server 2008 R2 Standard, SP1.

The electricity is scheduled to be turned off in my building for a couple hours over night.

I can shut the server down, but was wondering if there was a way to 'schedule' my server to turn itself on at a specific time the following morning?

Thank you

Windows 8.1 Pro join to domain issues....

We bought some Windows 8.1 laptops and purchased the upgrade to the Pro version.  When I attempt to join the laptops to the domain, it prompts me for domain credentials, I enter them, and I get an error....

Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "mydomain.com" failed.

The name will remain "mydomain.com".  The error was:

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

Of course, the domain DOES exist and we have plenty of Windows 7 workstations signed into it just fine.  I hit OK then login to the laptop using a domain account.  At this point, I get an error telling me that no logon servers are available to authenticate.

This is a Windows 2008 domain controlled environment.  Everything works fine otherwise for the Windows 7 systems, only these Windows 8.1 systems are having any issues.  The new laptops are even showing up in DNS on the domain controller.

Any ideas what I might be missing?  Is there something special about joining Windows 8.1 Pro systems to a domain?

Hi all;

As you know, looking for an address always include checking the content of the Hosts file . Now, how can I bypass Hosts file checking in a name resolution process?

Thanks

In Server 2003 we use TSM to connect to servers on our network and log off accounts of other users' stale sessions in order to free-up a login to the server. Does this functionality exist in Server 2008 R2?

Thanks

I am getting event ID errors 454, 489 and 494 in event logs on a W2K3 domain controller. The source is ESENT. They are all related to a file "console.sdb" which was on removable storage that is no longer being used. The database is gone. These errors occur approximately every 5 minutes. How do I prevent these errors from occuring?

Protecting NTFS against unexpected shutdowns

$

Hello. I work for a company that has more than 300 retail stores through my country. Those stores have a local Windows 2008 server running SQL Server 2008 for some local processing. All servers are Dell R220 and R210 II.

Problem is that some of those places have unreliable power supply. Even with UPS sometimes servers turn off and file system is corrupted. Last week we had a case of an unexpected shutdown which corrupted the registry files. Its rare but it happens and when it happens the store can't function properly.

We've solved this problem on the Linux PoS by using the "data=journal" parameter for the file system. This parameter makes the file system to commit all data and metadata into the journal before writing into the main file system. I'm not a file system engineer but we've tested and the PoS file systems seems pretty much immune to corruption caused by unexpected shutdown. It makes the system a bit slow but we don't care.

Is there something like that for NTFS? I've searched about it and read some documentation online but it seems to be no way to tune NTFS to become more resistant against corruption.

Many thanks.
