As we know block inheritance used for shared folder permission in NTFS file system over the network to any child folder from its parent folder. Can MS will add some features as like jump inheritance on the grand child folder so that the same permission will again applied from its grand parent folder to grand child folder. It will save time to Administrator.

I have literally searched the internet for days and cannot find a solution that applies to my situation, I'm hoping the experts can give me some help here. I'll start with my setup...

I have a machine running Windows Home Server 2011 (Based on Server 2008 R2). This is my primary server.
The server is connected to a Netgear R8000 router which acts as the DHCP server, with a Comcast business internet connection (no port blocking).
Three computers I am trying to connect: Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 Business, and Windows RT 8.1 (Surface Tablet).

I have setup a VPN connection on routing and remote access on the server. I'd like to use DHCP, but when I set the IPv4 address assignment on the server to DHCP, all clients fail to connect. Setting up a static address pool allows clients to connect.

Problem - once clients are connected, I can:
-Browse the internet without issue
-Ping machines by IP address without issue
-Browse and access network devices by IP address

I cannot:
-Ping machines by hostname
-Browse or access network devices by host name

On the client machines after connection, they receive an IP address in the static range which is on the same subnet as the server. Default gateway sets to 0.0.0.0, and subnet sets to 255.255.255.255. From what I understand about VPNs, this should not matter.

I think this is somehow a problem with WINS resolution, but I don't know enough about networking to resolve this. Any help is appreciated.

SMB1 Much Faster Than SMB2 on Server 2008 R2

I've been trying to resolve slow saving on our fileshare server running Server 2008 R2. This morning I disabled SMB2 which obviously caused it to fall back to SMB1 and it became lightning fast on saves. However, SMB1 is supposedly not secure and also Windows 10 machines won't support SMB1, at least without some changes which I really don't want to do. First, does anyone know why SMB1 would be much faster? Maybe there's some setting with SMB2 turned on that I need to make that would make a big difference with it. Otherwise, maybe I should upgrade the OS to 2012 R2 or later. I'm assuming SMB3 is mush better than SMB2, but I honestly don't know that. Any help would be appreciated.

We have network driver using NDIS 5 running till windows 2012 server and we working on porting onto windows 2016.

Do all drivers have to go through HLK compatibility tests in order to work on windows 2016 ?

I have an external client (in Android) that is trying to connect to a customized server (in Java) that runs in a Windows Server 2016. The client knows the public IP where Windows Server is, but I am failing addressing the message received to the customized server for responding it. I created for this purpose a NAT with the interface that is connected to Internet, and I used FTP Server

I don't know why I cannot change the port with a different number of 21 by the way (I would like to change it), but anyway I tried in this way to use it both for my client and server port's and they didn't connected. The IP that appears correspond to localhost IP (as it has connection to Internet I renamed as WAN).

I would like to know how to address the messages received with destiny the public IP by the client, to my java App that is waiting with a port opened.

Our charity often receives opened boxes of various types of software. We have recently been donated a few open boxes of Microsoft Server 2003 with service pack 1 (P73-01071). We sell these items to raise money for our charity but we are unable to verify the number of downloads left on the install CD's (if any).

We would like to find out if there is a way to see how many of the downloads are left, so we can inform our potential customers. Any info that someone could pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Deny logon locally GPO doesn't work

Hi, I'm trying to prevent specific accounts from having the ability to logon to any PCs in the domain. What I did in general are:

1) Create an OU named "Users - No Logon" and place the users I don't want to allow logon interactively in this OU.

2) Create a Security Group named "Users - No Logon" and place the users I don't want to allow logon interactively into this Group.

3) Create a GPO named "GPO - Users - No Logon" under the OU "Users - No Logon" and add the Security Group "Users - No Logon" to Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignments\Deny logon locally.

Basically the steps matches what are suggested in the following article. However, the accounts added to the Security Group "Users - No Logon" even after multiple log on / log off and reboots.

We have local RDP accounts and we need to give read/modify access to Task scheduler on particular jobs to these RDP accounts.

We have have give full control on %systemroot%\tasks but the users are unable to modify the job . they can still view the job.

We are receiving below error message when they try to modify the job.

"Task Scheduler cannot apply your changes.The user account is unknown, the password is incorrect,or the account does not have permission to modify the task."

How to fix this issue ?

Hi,

I have a Windows 2008 Active Directory and client machines with Windows 7 and Windows 10. I have a GPO that sets a policy to autolock client machines after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Last week, some of these client machines installed latests updates from Windows Update. Since then, all of them have the same problem: autolock doesn't work.

It is a known problem? Any way to workaround or solve?

Hi!

Is there any documentation that identify a list of essential services accoring to the role of the computer (domain controllers, member server, workstations) with the normal state of each of these services, like automatic or manual state?

We have a customer who asks us for this information, because they say that before they take the support in charge, all the users were administrators of their computers (now they are not) and they have found some computers with services in an irregular state, and now they want normalize them using GPOs. For example, a list of services with their states to allow remote administration (they think that in the past users know how to prevent their computer from being administered remotely and have disabled some services).

They have the same concern with server services according to their role (domain controllers and member servers), and they want to be sure that the servers have their services also standardized.

Hello everyone. I'm doing some research on my domain controller event logs and trying to understand how they should be appearing, but my studies and what I actually see isn't lining up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I posted this in the training forum at first, but I'm not sure if that was the correct area.

What I understand:

A user logs in on a regular client with a domain account:

4624 log created on that client
4768 log created on the Domain Controller
4625 log created on the client if log in is unsuccessful.
4772 log created on the Domain Controller if authentication fails
Logon type is 2 (interactive) in the log on the client.

A user logs in on a client with a local account:

4624 log created on that client
Authentication log is on the client as well (cant recall the log number)
Logon type is 2 (interactive).

What I see in practice

Several 4625 logs on the domain controller with the client hostname as the account name. Logon type 3.
Several 4624 logs on the domain controller with the client hostname as the account name. Logon type 3.
Several 4625 logs on the domain controller from Local accounts on the clients. Logon type 3 (Network). This is the one I'm most concerned about.

I read that the clients have to "logon" as well, so this is may be why I am seeing the logons with hostnames as the account name, but what exactly does that mean? And if it is unsuccessful, does that just mean it couldn't get on to the domain?

I believe I've read that when a client is connected/reconnected to the domain the local accounts attempt to authenticate to the domain. Is this true?

Hi All,

I have an user who requested to change her surname since she has been married, I changed as I would normally do, I have done many times before I did not have any issues at all. But this time, after I changed her surname, she can logon to PC (windows 7) but she cannot log on to Outlook 2013, the logon windows keeps asking username and password.

We have AD 2012 on-premises, ADDS 2008 and ADFS 2008

What I have done troubleshooting so far:

force sync by Start-ADSyncSyncCycle each time editing

changed her password

tried to log on OWA, I got an error message: AADSTS90019: The SAML 1.1 Assertion contains no ImmutableID of the user.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a frustrating issue with forwarded events log which still empty when I change the location of this one to the D partition rather than the defaut setting C: (it works fine in C:)

once I change the location in the proerties of forwarded events to D: a new log is created but still empty.

I have a ticket open with MS and our dir sync seems to not sync changed Active Directory names to Office 365. When a user logs into office 365 they receive the error

AADSTS90019: The SAML 1.1 Assertion contains no ImmutableID of the user

Already ran some scripts.

Set-MsolDirSyncFeature -Feature SynchronizeUpnForManagedUsers -Enable $true

Seemed to be set to false but tested again and same error

edited user account name again in AD to change back to old, that still works, but renaming it again and force full dir sync, on the account we get the error when accessing Office 365 or Outlook

Tried

Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName user_newname@domain.com-NewUserPrincipalName user@domain.onmicrosoft.com

then

Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName user@domain.onmicrosoft.com -NewUserPrincipalName user_newname@domain.com

Same error. MS seems to be running out of ideas. I don't see much about this. Everything seems to match and sync over.

If i create a new account name with user_newname then in proxy address add the user_oldname to it, no older emails show up nor can the user access their one drive in office 365.

If i set account name back to user_oldname and run sync, everything works. frustrated

I am running a Server 2012R2 Exchange 2013 CU21 4 node DAG cluster and CAS array. I have 4 mailbox databases set out like this:

Ex1: db1(active),db2(passive),db3(passive),db4(passive)

Ex2: db1(passive),db2(active),db3(passive),db4(passive)

Ex3: db1(passive),db2(passive),db3(active),db4(passive)

Ex4: db1(passive),db2(passive),db3(passive),db4(active)

I have noticed recently Event 2137 in Ex1, Ex3 and Ex4:

RPC request to the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service for log truncation failed for database db2\Ex1. Error: Failed to notify source server 'Ex2.atlgroup.co.uk' about the local truncation point. Hresult: 0xc8000713. Error: Unable to find the file.

This normally results in users with mailboxes on Ex2 active db2 experiencing Outlook client disconnects with the server as well as the Active DB copy failing over to Ex1

If I check the server health:
