Windows Update failure 2008 R2

Server 2008R2 getting black screen

Hi all

I accidentally deselected  load system services in general tab of system configuration server 2008 R2 and restarted.Now server getting black screen.On restart server showing Windows loading and it goes black screen.

I tried startup repair using CD.but no joy.

Please help me recovering the server back.

KMS HOST REMOVAL

Have an old KMS host that somehow keeps popping up in DNS.  How can i remove this service without removing the server?  This was setup by another user on a DC.  I have a new server setup and working but this old one keeps popping up in DNS and causing issues.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Service won't start. Error 1053 (timeout) comes up within 2 seconds, but timeout set for much longer

I have a set of services on a Windows Server 2012 R@ server that I created myself, but when I try to start the service I get the following message:

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

In the System Event Log, I see the following Error event with Service Control Manager as the source and Event ID 7009:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the <service name> service to connect.

The problem is that the error comes up within 2 seconds of when I try to start the service. I tried extending the timeout period to 240000 milliseconds in the Registry, but not only does the service still fail to start, but the Event Log entry reads the same.

I'm prepared to delete and re-create these services, but I'd like to know if there is a fix for this so I don't have to do that. Can someone please shed some light on this? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

DFSR Error ID: 5016

i'm facing issue with DFS replication, i will appreciate your help.

Errors on DC01:

The DFS Replication service detected that the connection with partner DC2 for replication group test has been removed or disabled.

The DFS Replication service did not find a valid machine configuration file at the location specified. It has created a new machine configuration file with default settings. Custom settings configured for this machine may be lost.

[FAILED]Installation of Language Pack on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1

Hi there!

I have 2 servers (1 main and 1 backup)
Both have been installed with the same OS with all Windows Updates Installed.

I tried installing a language pack onto both servers but it fails on one of my servers.

After Progress shows "Installing" for quite some time, it fails. What could be the cause of the failure to install?

XML Filter for SessionBroker-Logins

Hi,

i tried nearly every combination of Filter, but either i get no results or an error.

I want to filter the events that show which user gets on which RDSH.

So i need to filter for UserData\EventXML xmlns="Event_NS"\param2

*[UserData[EventXML[@Name = 'param2'] = 'Domain\username']] or
*[UserData[EventXML[2] = 'Domain\username']] has no results and some other combinations like this too.

There are many examples on the net, but none for this.

Selective Authentication Trust and Remote Desktop

I'm testing for a trust we're going to be setting up, where TrustingDomain has a 1 way outgoing external trust to TrustedDomain, using selective authentication. We need to allow users in TrustedDomain to use remote desktop session hosts in TrustingDomain. Both domains are 2012 R2 functional level. 

I have a user in TrustedDomain correctly permissioned to use RDP to a host in TrustingDomain. With selective authentication turned on, and the user given Allowed to Authenticate permission on the host, the login fails, with the message:

"Other user

The computer you are signing into is protected by an authentication firewall. The specified account is not allowed to authenticate to the computer. "

I've verified selective authentication is working correctly by testing a shared folder on the target host - the user can access it fine with the Allowed to Authenticate permission applied on the host, and can't access if Allowed to Authenticate is removed. If I change to Domain-wide authentication the user can log on to the RDP session with no problem, so remote permissions are fine too. 

I've also tested giving the user full control on the target machine object in AD - this allows the RDP session when Selective Authentication is turned on, but obviously defeats the purpose of just giving Allowed to Authenticate permission. 

How can this be correctly permissioned to allow TrustedDomain users to RDP to TrustingDomain hosts using selective authentication?

Task Scheduler - task returns 0xC0000142

Hello all,

First let me start by stating that I have read numerous posts regarding this error (both here on TechNet, as well as other sites) and still cannot resolve my issue.  I am reasonably certain that it is a Desktop Heap issue but have hit a wall trying to resolve it.

The Problem:

We have a Windows 2012R2 server running SharePoint 2013 and is the Central Administration Server. It has a couple Scheduled Tasks, which were running fine until a few weeks ago when we installed some SharePoint updates. Now, the tasks will run for about a day after a reboot before they start returning a 0xC0000142 code. Strangely, we have another very similarly configured SharePoint farm, that was updated at the same time, which is not having any issues.

Research & Troubleshooting:

Firstly, I can state confidently that it is not the scripts themselves. They will run after a reboot but start generating the error after some time (~ a day). I even went so far as to enable Transaction logging in one of the scripts (they are both PowerShell scripts), but the task never gets far enough for PowerShell to initialize and generate the log – likely due to the Desktop Heap memory being exhausted and the task is unable to create an environment in which to run.

Some posts suggest running SFC /SCANNOW. I have done that, and it came back clean.  And, again, the Task will run for a while after a reboot.

Some posts suggest or elude to changing the task from running under the SYSTEM account, to using a named account (e.g. Administrator). Unfortunately, these tasks are already running with a named account – specifically our SharePoint Admin account, as they need to run in that user context (e.g. SharePoint Farm backup). So, I am sort of stuck using the current account.

Finally, some posts suggest running the task interactively (i.e. “run only when user is logged in”). While that may very well work, it really isn’t a solution. These tasks need to run regardless of the user being logged in.

The Solution:

As stated, I have adjusted the Desktop Heap memory for non-interactive sessions (seehttps://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/ntdebugging/2007/01/04/desktop-heap-overview/). In fact, I have doubled it twice (768KB to 1536KB; then to 3072KB). At first, it seemed to work.  But after about a day the tasks started throwing the error again, so I adjusted it again. Since a reboot is necessary to activate the change, it takes a while to confirm whether it has helped or not.

So here are my questions:

  1. How big can/should I make the non-interactive Heap size? Some info that I read states that if the non-interactive heap is not set, it will default to the interactive heap’s size (20480KB for Win2008-x64 and newer). At some point it could become a performance issue, I would assume, but at 20MB probably not a big deal.
  2. Am I heading in the right direction? Is tweaking the Desktop Heap settings the best solution? Or should I be looking elsewhere? (not sure where…everything points here)

I will post updates as I have more relevant information.

Cannot install IE 11 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1

Hi all,
I'm trying to install IE 11 from setup package on windows 2008 R2 but I've error:

Hi All,

Apologies if I am posting on the wrong forum.

I am getting the above error occasionally on my server running Win Server 2012 R2 and it only seems to happen most frequently between 3am to 7am. There are times the error does appear in the afternoon but maybe once or twice in a week.

What is this error ? Does it affect anything and how do i resolve it ?

Windows Server 2008 stuck - Updates 3 of 3 100%

We have a data server running Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Standard, which is still required for our medical records software. The server is stuck in an update loop and since we have tried to start in safe mode and last known good configuration and same results. This is a server that we were re purposing for this data as that is what the provider of our medical records requires. NEED HELP to recover this server. We do not have any software discs as these purchases were downloads and SQL 2008 is no longer supported. We just have to maintain this data for 7 years and currently the company that provides the software has not upgraded. We do not have a current backup since we were still in the process of creating one when the updates happened. Thank you for any help!

Error 0x80072F8F while attempting to activate Windows

A Windows Server 2008 R2 server running is a VM hosted by a third party hypervisor.

After an hardware failure (of the hypervisor) the VM started requesting the Windows activation.

We attempted to activate Windows but we get error 0x80072F8F.
We performed several actions:
- we re-entered the product key
- we restarted the VM
- we ensured that the VM can navigate in the web
As a temporary solution we used the command slmgr.vbs /rearm, but is only a temporary fix.
What else can we do in order to activate the VM?

Upgrade Server Version

I am looking to upgrade some of my VM servers that are currently running 2008r2 and 2008 std and I want to go to server 2016, but have been told that I have to first upgrade to server 2012 and then to 2016. Can I buy 1 licnese for 2012 and run on them all since they are moving to 2016 or do I need to buy servers=# of license for 2012 and do I need any CAL's for 2012 since it is moving on to 2016. I appreciate any assistance you can provide

server 2008 r2, raid1 mirror, always auto update

I crashed few days ago, I don't know the reason.

fortunately, I have backup everyday.

I use image recovery file made by backup server,

at last it shows error 0xD0000451 say It don't recognize some hardware, but I use same server.

it continue blue screen

and I can't restore my server

sometimes it can run in safe mode but stuck in 'bfad_up.sys '

please help me

On Domain Controller not able to see anything in logs for password update whereas on trying to change password throws 'WILL_NOT_PERFORM' error

I am struggling with change password option for a user through one of my application. This application authenticates user provided username/password on AD, particular domain controller. But when i try to change password with admin account for the same user, i am getting 'javax.naming.OperationNotSupportedException: [LDAP: error code 53 - 0000001F: SvcErr: DSID-031A1254, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0'

On the domain controller in the logs i am able to see credential validation request as per the timestamp but not able to see any request for password update try like 4724 event. Could somebody help me here.

4740 account lockout, is that just on the PDC? or also on member clients and servers?

Windows Installer 5.0 for Windows server 2016 for Build and create the pacakge.

Hi Team,

We are working Windows based application . Application has been currently working on Windows XP using Visual Basic 6.0 and VB.NET- Framework 1.1.

We have compiled the code in Windows XP machine and Build and create package in Windows 2000 server using Microsoft SMS installer 2.0.

Now Our application migrating from VB6.0 to Latest VB.NET version. For this migration we need to compile the code in Windows 7 64 bit OS and Build the new package in Windows 2016 server with Microsoft SMS installer.

Microsoft SMS installer 2.0 is not supported in Windows 2016 server. Can you please help us where to get the latest Microsoft SMS installer 4.5 or 5.0 which supports in Windows 2016 server.
