Pagefile.sys situation (can delete or not?)

$

I have some inquiry for the pagefile.sys. I'm currently maintaining Window Server 2008 VM, and we have for about 3 separate disk, C,D, and E. Before this, the RAM will consume the C drive if the RAM is not enough, and it will consume for about 32 gb. When Im rebooting the VM, I already reconfigured the virtual memory, pagefile.sys in disk d, and e for about 32 gb. and I want to make the pagefile.sys in C to none.

After rebooting, I realised that the C drive still have the old 32gb pagefile.sys before this eventhough I make it to none on the configuration. So, can I just delete the file because I already configured the pagefile.sys in another drive(D,E)? My assumption is that, after reconfiguration, if the RAM use is high, it will go to D, or E rather than to use C.

Azure OMS portal shows COUNT OF UNRESPONSIVE AGENTS 2

I have two queries regarding OMS in Azure:

1. Azure OMS portal shows COUNT OF UNRESPONSIVE AGENTS 2 but actually both the Servers (listed in unresponsive servers are running fine). This is being shown since yesterday even though all the Servers are up and running fine. Why does it show 'Count of Unresponsive Agents 2'. What can be done so that OMS starts detecting Heartbeat from both of these Servers ?

2. Also, Update Management in Automation Account of OMS installed Updates on 2 out of 6 selected Servers. Why did the updates not get installed on other 4 servers even though all 6 servers were configured successfully in Update Management. Only 2 got updates and 4 failed to get updates through Update Management. No event Id was generated on those 4 servers. Kindly advice accordingly.

Looking forward to an early response,

Vikram.

Computers authenticate to DC on another subnet causing wrong GPO

Hi all,

I'm facing a weird problem. I have a DC on subnet 1.0 with some GPO applied according to sites. Sometimes I have computers that get GPO from a DC on a other subnet (2.0) despite their DHCP is right configured.

After a reboot all come back in order, but I can't find why they don't contact their proper DC first.

When the problem appear, nslookup return to the wrong DC, and DHCP is ok. Sites & Services is right configured.

DC on 1.0 is W2K8, DC on 2.0 is W2K16.

Thanks

Microsoft official explanation about IUSER

The IUSR account is similar to LOCALSERVICE in the manner in which it acts anonymously on the network. The NETWORKSERVICE and LOCALSYSTEM accounts can act as the machine identity, but the IUSR account cannot because it would require an elevation of user rights.------What is the meaning of machine identity? why the IUSER account can't  act as machine identity

PLease give me an answer.Thank you  in advance

I changed this on the server and ran copy settings to "welcome screen" and "new user accounts" the welcome screen shows fine but new accounts show as above error after applying and going back in

I have ran an SFC scan and it found some errors and rebooted but still hasn't solved this issue.

Once a domain users password has expired they can not change it and must contact the network administrator

$

If a user fails to change their password before it has expired, they are unable to change it by pressing ctrl-alt-del.

When the user logs onto their computer they get a warning stating that their password has expired and they need to change it.  The user attempts to change the password but when they put in their old password and put in their new password and hit enter they get an error stating "Logon failure, the specified account password has expired".

Now if their account is not expired they can change their password by pressing ctrl-alt-del, they have no issues.  But once their account password has expired, they can not change their password, it has to be reset by the network administrator.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue so that users can change their password once it has become expired?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Single Label Domain, DNS, and DHCP

A client of ours recently upgraded servers from 2012 R2 to 2016 but is still running on a single label domain.  We were going to migrate to a full FQDN but the client decided to not do that just yet to save on time (I believe).  I also upgraded the forest and domain levels from 2003 to 2012 R2.  With the combination of the upgraded OS and greatly upgraded forest and domain levels, a few issues began to bubble to the surface.

First, we noticed issues with AD replication and saw that the network was still using FRS.  We migrated this to DFSR and resolved those issues.  Currently what we're seeing now is issues with DHCP.  DNS, obviously, is still configured with the single label (i.e. COMPANY).  DNS appears to be working as it did before the migration, at least in terms of resolving queries.  DHCP is currently set up with options 03 (router) and 06 (DNS servers).  Options 04 (time server) and 46 (NetBIOS over TCP/IP node type) were removed since they appeared to be superfluous.

As DHCP leases expire, however, the client is stating that they cannot renew leases and must reboot the PC.  Once they do this, the PCs receive a new lease and continue working normally.  After reading many, many articles including Active Directory DNS Single Label Names (thank you, Ace), the issues appears to me to be clearly that the domain is still still single label and cannot properly function interact with DHCP and DNS.  The client, however, is arguing that this should have nothing to do with the problems they're seeing.

I'm hoping someone can give a more definitive answer since it's pretty clear that the technology, though it might have worked even through 2012 R2, simply is a throwback to NT4.  As a last fact, WINS was being used on the network prior to the migration to 2016 but was not migrated because it was believed to be too old and irrelevant.  If we're told that this must be re-implemented it will be.

Thank you

If a patch is being superseded by a rollup, will the rollup fix whatever the old patch fixed?

There is a fix I was going to apply to fix an IIS issue on Windows Server 2008 R2. The standalone patch is: KB4345459.

KB4345459 fixes an issue where IIS locks up and must be rebooted.

Our team is going to deploy August patches and I see that KB4345459 is superseded by 2018-08 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB4343900).

My question is, since the August quality rollup is superseding the old one, will the rollup contain whatever is necessary to fix the issue? Or am I better off installing KB4345459 before I install the August rollup? I can't seem to find out if superseded means that I can assume whatever problem was fixed by the standalone patch KB4345459 will be fixed by KB4345459.

Hi All,

Recently we built a physical Windows 2012 R2 server, since last month we see repeated number of Error Events in Application Log :

Error ID 2001 - Source : Usbperf

Unable to read the "First Counter" value under the usbperf\Performance Key. Status codes returned in data.

On running Perfmon the usbperf counter is missing from it

We already tried lodctr /r for System32 and SysWOW64 to rebuild the counters but still errors are getting generated.

Could you please let me know what else could be done to troubleshoot this error?

I already went through and tried rebuilding the counters

The Hyper - V Virtual Machine Management service terminated with the following error: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.

- The service is started but stops in 30 seconds even though there is 292 GB free available on Drive: C and 887 GB available on Drive: D. The memory utilization is 3 % and CPU Utilization is 3 %. Kindly guide accordingly as Hyper V needs to be started at the earliest as there are VMs hosted on it.

Microsoft AlwaysOn VPN - "true" setting breaks some Windows 10 Clients

$

We are deploying Microsoft AlwaysOn VPN and everything went well during initial testing. Now that we are deploying it out to the field and remote users, we are having a strange issue where the "<AlwaysOn>true</AlwaysOn>" setting causes a "the connection is already being dialed" error on the Windows 10 builtin VPN client. We know it's not an issue with anything else as just change "<AlwaysOn>true</AlwaysOn>" to "<AlwaysOn>false</AlwaysOn>" and recreating the VPN profile, and the client can immediately connect, access all internal resources, etc. So somehow this setting is causing the rasdialer.exe to think it's already dialing or it's stuck in a state where it cannot connect, nor can it prompt for error or additional information. All local logging and debugging has been enabled and doesn't really produce any substantial error message to go on. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thank you!

Hello. Please help me. My hp proliant dl 380 gen 9 server has often crashed. Operating system is windows server 2012 r2.

I have researched this thoroughly and done everything that the advice has said, and the problem has kept going on.

Event ID 41 - Kernel-Power

Event Viewer states:
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
