Hi

I my Windows/System32 folder I have both MRT and MRT-KB890830, which are the same size, modified the same day, the same minute, just like some twins or clones.

Should I keep both or is it safe to remove one, since it takes 127 MB?

Thanks

Request Certificate through MMC shows blank

Hi,

We have Enterprise Root CA on Windows 2012 R2. We have created workstation authentication certificate template for our internal web server. On client machines when we request certificate through MMC we are not able to see any template. The screen is blank. We have checked the ports and permissions to access CA server from client machines. This issue is appearing only on client machines - Windows 7 /10 OS and not on Windows servers. Please suggest some resolution as we are not able to get any root cause for this issue. No templates are displayed in this window

When we click on Show all templates then this shows that the templates are unavailable.

KB4291495 and KB4284852 on Windows Server 2012 both failing with Code 80071A90

Can't seem to get these two updates installed on my domain controller running Windows Server 2012 Essentials.  I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and that completed successfully.  Can't seem to find anything online to suggest that anyone else is seeing this problem and has a fix.   What are the best troubleshooting steps to do next?

User properties, Start the following program at logon, does not remove taskbar

In the past I've used started programs by entering a .exe in the environment tab "start the following program at login" option in the user properties.

What has happened in the past is the program starts and the user is locked out of the start menu and task bar. Work good to keep people on the one program I want them to use.

I've got a "new" Windows 2008 R2 server which doesn't seem to remove the task bar.

Is there a setting I'm missing? I'd add a picture, but I guess my account isn't verified.

    Thanks

    Windows 2012 R2 - Time Change - Server Shutdown

Hello there, I have a lot of Dell PowerEdge T130 servers out there with Windows 2012 R2 Standard on them. Whenever the timechange happens, these servers power right down. No reboot, they just turn right off.

All we have to do is tell staff to press the button to turn them back on, but it is a pain as these are running important building systems and it is not good when they shut off.

    Any ideas?

Time Configuration in Active Directory via GPO - Windows 2012 R2 not working.

I followed the link "https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/nepapfe/2013/03/01/its-simple-time-configuration-in-active-directory/" to configure NTP via GPO however I did not find Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Windows Time Service. Instead I found Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Enable Windows NTP Server\Windows Time Service which is not working. Does anyone aware of GPO configuration in Windows 2012 R2 about how to configure NTP server.

Issue with Invoke-DhcpServerv4FailoverReplication -force on server 2012 R2

    Hi,

Has anyone else seen where the Invoke-DhcpServerv4FailoverReplication -force command in powershell will occasionally deactivate a scope?

We use the Invoke-DhcpServerv4FailoverReplication -force command to replicate our scope changes to the HA server.

But occasionally this command is deactivating scopes that aren't used that often.

But will leave highly used scopes activated.

    Any thoughts?

    Usage:  winmgmt [/backup <filename>] [/restore <filename> <flag>]
                    [/resyncperf] [/standalonehost [<level>]] [/sharedhost]
                    [/verifyrepository [<path>]] [/salvagerepository]
                    [/resetrepository]
    /backup <filename>
Causes WMI to back up the repository to the specified file name. The
filename argument should contain the full path to the file location.
This process requires a write lock on the repository so that write
operations to the repository are suspended until the backup process is
            completed.
    /restore <filename> <flag>
Manually restores the WMI repository from the specified backup file.
The filename argument should contain the full path to the backup file
location. To perform the restore operation, WMI saves the existing
repository to write back if the operation fails. Then the repository is
restored from the backup file that is specified in the filename
argument. If exclusive access to the repository cannot be achieved,
existing clients are disconnected from WMI. The flag argument must be a
1 (force - disconnect users and restore) or 0 (default - restore if no
users connected) and specifies the restore mode.
    /resyncperf
Registers the system performance libraries with WMI.
    /standalonehost [<level>]
Moves the Winmgmt service to a standalone Svchost process that has a
fixed DCOM endpoint. The default endpoint is "ncacn_ip_tcp.0.24158".
However, the endpoint may be changed by running Dcomcnfg.exe. The level
argument is the authentication level for the Svchost process. If level
is not specified, the default is 4 (RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT).
    /sharedhost
Moves the Winmgmt service into the shared Svchost process.
    /verifyrepository [<path>]
Performs a consistency check on the WMI repository. When you add the
/verifyrepository switch without the <path> argument, then the live
repository currently used by WMI is verified. When you specify the path
argument, you can verify any saved copy of the repository. In this
case, the path argument should contain the full path to the saved
repository copy. The saved repository should be a copy of the entire
            repository folder.
    /salvagerepository
Performs a consistency check on the WMI repository, and if an
inconsistency is detected, rebuilds the repository.  The content of the
inconsistent repository is merged into the rebuilt repository, if it
can be read. The salvage operation always works with the repository
that the WMI service is currently using. MOF files that contain the
#pragma autorecover preprocessor statement are restored to the
            repository.
    /resetrepository
The repository is reset to the initial state when the operating system
is first installed. MOF files that contain the #pragma autorecover
preprocessor statement are restored to the repository.

VPN - Can't Connect to DC

    Hi guys;

I have a bit of an odd situation that I'm having troubles figuring out.

I have a Windows 2008 R2 network at home consisting of about 6 machines all located behind TMG 2010. I can access all of them through RDP (PPTP) except for ONE machine - the domain controller. I can RDP into the second DC but not into the first DC.

I can ping the problematic DC and it has proper forward and reverse DNS entries. The VPN client is Windows 10 Pro. IN other words. I can access every machine except the DC.

Any ideas on what could cause this?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm preparing for the Microsoft SQL Server Database Admin Certification and one of the requirements is to set up a lab environment on my Windows 8.5 Pro PC.

    The following software is required:

VMware Workstation 14 Player (non-commercial edition)

Windows Server 2016 180 day evaluation (Data Center Edition)

    SQL Server 2016 Developers Edition

I have installed VMware on my pc and that went without incident.

When I attempt to create a virtual machine (pointing to the Windows Server ISO) I get an error:

    unsuccessful

    EFI network

    Start PXE over IPv4

I can't get past this error to install the Windows Server on the virtual machine.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

    Thanks,

    Damian

    Hi

Can someone tell me which KB update enables sha256 on server 2008 R2 for the RDP certificate or if a registry entry needs to be changed.  Found a few articles online and tested installs of various kb's mentioned but nothing seems to change the default from sha1.

Alternatively if someone can point me to a good guide on how to use an internal CA to generate a replacement certificate which can be placed on workgroup only servers in our DMZ and replace the self-signed one?

    Thanks

Remote Desktop on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,

Near the end of our 120 day grace period for Terminal server we purchased 5 licenses and applied them to the server.  Below is one of the error messages I get and no one can logon to the server remotely.  The network has only 1 server so it acts as the licensing server and AD DS.

The Remote Desktop license server could not be registered as a service connection point in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that there is network connectivity between the license server and AD DS.
