Hyper-V replication problem

$

Hello. I have two 2012 domain joined servers running hyper-v. The domain is also 2012. The two hyper-v servers are replication partners. One is the primary which runs the virtual machines and the other one is the replica server which keeps copies of the virtual machines. All virtual machines replicate normally with no errors. Only one has problems replicating. I removed replication and created it again. Initial replication completes successfully. Also several replication cycles replicate normally. After a point the virtual machine stops replicating and the status is critical. The event log reports:

  • Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'server1': General access denied error (0x80070005). (Virtual Machine ID D569EFAF-F74F-44DB-B253-F64C123D2FC2)
  • Hyper-V suspended replication for virtual machine 'server1' due to a non-recoverable failure. (Virtual Machine ID D569EFAF-F74F-44DB-B253-F64C123D2FC2). Resume replication after correcting the failure
  • Hyper-V failed to open the file 'E:\Virtual Machines\VM_HDD_Files\server1\server1_3527FD36-E705-4D69-AB98-C467EF5DEC85.hrl' for replication in primary server for virtual machine 'server1': General access denied error (0x80070005). (Virtual Machine ID D569EFAF-F74F-44DB-B253-F64C123D2FC2)

I removed and added replication several times and always have the same behavior, only for the specific virtual machine. Any help is welcome!!!!

Office KMS installed, activated, but not licensed

Hi,

 -  server 2012 with Office KMS license package installed. The server itself is currently KMS client.

1. I uninstalled old Office pkey (uninstall failed using product key, but worked using Activation ID)

2. Installed new Office 2013 pkey (success) and run ato (success).

3. When check KMS status it shows Unlicensed, after successful activation.

What to check? How to fix it?

I want to add, that there is another KMS server with the same Office product key (I plan to remove the server after making work a new one. Don't think that it could be a problem. We can go up to 6 KMSs with the same key for Windows probably the same is for Office...

ActiveSync object protected - cannot delete

I am currently running Windows Server 2008 r2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.

I am trying to delete a disabled A/D user account however it has Exchange Active Sync Device objects (4) attached  which are the reason that I cannot delete the account.

We deleted the exchange account & mailbox within Exchange 2 weeks ago and disabled the AD account - for a 2 week hold.  Now we cant delete the AD account because the following error:  object contains other objects. Are you sure you want to delete object "USER" and all of the object it contains?  i answer yes, then receive the following:   You do not have sufficient privileges to delete xxxxxxxxx CN=ExchangeActiveSyncDevice.....  or this object is protected from accidental deletion.

I am an Enterprise and Domain admin, How do i get rid of this account and its 4 active sync objects?

if one was to install VMware ESXi and create two virtual machines using 50% of processors (6 CPU's) and all other resources, then install Microsoft server 2016 in each virtual machine.

bringing me to the question, what MS software/licencing do I need to purchase, with SKU's please?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi all,

in Windows Server 2012 R2 it's possible to set up a counter to monitor for http response codes:

However, these counters don't appear to exist on 2008 R2. Does anyone know if there's a way to find out this information in 2008 R2 Performance Monitor?

Thanks

Referred to this sight from the general windows forum

All of the sudden in event viewer I started receiving:

Event ID:  10

Source:  WMI

Log:  Application

Last Hour:  327

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceOperationEvent WITHIN 10 WHERE (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_ExternalEthernetPort') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_VLANEndpoint') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_SyntheticEthernetPort') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_ComputerSystem') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_EthernetSwitchPortVlanSettingData')" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/virtualization/v2" because of error 0x80041010. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

My system is running perfectly fine in all aspects

I have done all the mundane things IE: chkdsk, sfc and numerous others and they all return no errors

32 Bit and 64 Bit error on Windows 2008 R2

$

I have Exchange 2010 running on Win 2008 R2 Server, 64Bit.

I cannot open command prompt, dns, dxdiag, IIS etc. The following error appears every time:-

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your

computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 Bit) version of the             program and then contact the software publisher."

I have uninstalled some windows update, rebooted the server, initialized chckdsk but no change.

Some exchange 2010 tools from the TOOLBOX are not functioning as well, namely queue viewer and mail flow troubleshooter, even though a different error is displayed, i believe its something to do with the OS.

Kindly advice

Cannot Open ADUC or Sites and Services on a DC

On one of my Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controllers, I cannot open ADUC or Sites and Services (error boxes below). I would like to try removing and reinstalling RSAT on this DC (AD Admin Center would also have to be removed) , but want to make sure that doesn't break anything. I don't see anything in event viewer.

I can't seem to post images yet. The error is: "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: ADUC or Sites and Services, along with a unique CLSID."

Thanks.

Hello Members,

Is there a way to find out if a service is deleted?

I don't think its difficult, may be i a missing the right audit settings.

Any help in this regards would be great.

PS.Installing a new service is 'audited' perfectly and the usual start/stop and StartMode changes.

Thanks for your time.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 file renaming issue with log4j

$

0

Hi guys,

I have a very strange problem, and I just can't explain it. We usually install our product on Linux servers, however this one customer insisted on Windws, and we managed to produce an issue that was only ever reported to happen on Windows. Anyway, here are the details:

One of our customers has a couple of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise editions with Service Pack 1. We have developed a Java web application for them, and installed into all of the servers. We use log4j for logging, and one of the jars uses a custom DailyRollingFileAppender. 4 of these servers have been in production for almost a year now, with multiple updates in this interval, without any problem. Recently these servers were reinstalled on different hardware (all separated physical servers), and our application was also reinstalled, still, no problem for a month. Then, we updated our application, which included an update to the aforementioned jar with the custom logger. Then some issues started happening with the logs generated by this appender: the log file should have been rolled every hour (renaming, and then creating a new log for the current hour), but instead it was constantly overwritten. It turned out that the log file couldn't be renamed:

log4j:ERROR Failed to rename [d:\...\app_tomcat/logs/***.log] to [d:\...\app_tomcat/logs/***.log.2016-11-28-10].

I searched through a few log4j forums, and I found that Windows doesn't allow the file to be renamed, because it's accessed by multiple processes at the same time. I actually found a workaround for this, a different appender which creates the files already suffixed with the date, so there is no need for renaming. Alas, the customer demands a full explanation of why this happened just like this, out of the blue.

The old and new servers both had the same operating system, same service pack. The log4j was the same all along the way, as well as the way the problematic jar file did the logging. So basically, nothing concerning the logging was changed. Still, after the first production server was ready with the updated version of our application, the issue appeared immediately. After a Tomcat restart it disappeared, but it keeps coming back sporadically, and I'm not allowed to install the workaround until I provide an explanation.

The strange thing is that this problem never appeared before, and it still doesn't appear on any of the test servers. It actually appears on one of the four production servers only.

The only difference I could find is that the installed Windows updates are a bit different across the four servers (but the updates were also different on the old servers as well).

What I need right now is basically an idea, a thought, which I could investigate. Or was this all by pure chance? The logging accidentally didn't get screwed up for almost a year? I still have access to the old servers as they haven't yet been decommissioned, so if some data gathered could be helpful I can get it.

Thanks for everything,

Gabor

What is causing the w32time service to start, sync, and then stop on my server after I have stopped it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

For testing purposes, I sometimes have to change the date/time on a Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual machine (VMWare) that is on our domain. To ensure that the time does not resync with the domain controller, I turn off the w32time service. Time sync is from VMWare Tools is also off. However, sometimes I return to the server to find that it has resynced with the domain controller. Do I also need todisable the service in addition to stopping it?? What is turning the w32time service back on? Below is the most recent example.

I set the server's time to 5 days in the future. It stayed "in the future" for 5 days. Then, early this morning, the w32time service started, synced, and stopped. I'm having trouble finding the cause. Below are the event logs I see.

Slow response fixed by DC reboot

We have a small domain with 20 local users, 1 SQL Server (SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows server 2008 standard) , 2 domain controllers running Windows Server 2008 standard sp1). Both act as file servers as well but there is not a lot of file activity.

The SQL Server hosts the company database. It is 30 gig in size. About 12 of the network users are heavy database users. Most activity is order entry and invoicing. The database is involved with merge replication with 120 subscribers. About half of the local interaction is from a ERP system written in MS Access front end code modules using ODBC to connect to the SQL Server database. The rest of the interaction uses a Dot Net front end and efficient stored procedures on the server.

All local users have Windows 7 PCs with modern nic cards. We have a high quality switch with all workstations connected through good cabling.

Normally, the network runs smoothly with good response times. The network issue we are facing is that the system response will suddenly become very very slow when entering or accessing data on the SQL Server. Other network activity does not seem to be affected. There are no large files being copied across the network  and no heavy internet use. It will continue to be very slow until we reboot the domain controller.

The SQL Server does not show abnormal activity before, during, or after the slowdown. No long running queries, blocking, locking issues. Nothing that we can see using traces either.

My question is: What could be causing the slowdown that would respond to a reboot of the Domain Controller?
