Good Day,
I am trying to create a development environment so I can run some tests using ADMT. I setup a separate VLAN that has no IP access to my production environment as well as a VMware server to host the DEV domain controller.
As for the DC, I set that up to be a global catalog server with the hopes of seizing the FSMO roles later. I powered down my production server and copied the files to my vmware server and started the machine back up (removed the NIC) hoping to see my DC intact.... but this was not the case.
When I try to access ADUC I get the following error message because DNS does not come up: "Naming information cannot be located for the following reason: The server is not operational."
When I try to start the DNS service I get: "Error 1222: The network is not present or not started.
My question is "Am I doing this correctly" and if I am how to I get DNS started in order to access active directory.
